What You’ll Need To Make An Influential Corporate Video

Making an influential video that will leave a lasting impression on your target audience can be tough.

And making an influential video that will get your audience’s attention in the first place is half the battle.

Sometimes companies will outsource their corporate video production to experts (like us) who understand what it takes to create a successful, long-lasting corporate video.

Over the years, we’ve come to realize that there are a certain number of integral ingredients needed to create memorable content.

Here, we’ve compiled a list of some of the top things you’ll need to create an influential corporate video worth remembering:

Strong, Clear Message

What You'll Need To Make An Influential Corporate Video

It goes without saying that your message should be clear, strategic, and to the point. The last thing your company needs is an unclear video with a message your audience can’t understand. Ideally, a strong video will answer the five W’s (who, what, when, where, and why) along with how. By the end of your video, a potential customer (or anyone who interacts with your brand, for that matter) should have a well-rounded understanding of who you are, what you do, why they should care, and how they can invest into you.

Marketing Strategy

What You'll Need To Make An Influential Corporate Video

Before you even think about what to put into your corporate video, you need to create a solid marketing strategy. This includes creating a template on how you plan to maximize your reach. Who is your target audience? What are their virtual (or non-virtual) hangouts? Should you consider an app developer? What are their (online) habits? This will not only determine the type of content you create but also how you create it. By understanding your audience, you’ll be able to generate content catered specifically to them and potentially see a greater return on your investment.

High Production Value

What You'll Need To Make An Influential Corporate Video

Everything you do – from the products you offer to the services you provide – should be a reflection of your professionalism. An influential corporate video is no exception. With that being said, your video should have high production value. Gone are the days when 420p videos or SD would suffice. And now with the introduction of 4K resolution, it’s almost imperative to have at least 720p or 1080p videos as the bare minimum. Both the audio and lighting should be crisp and clear, and should reflect the tone of the video piece.

A Beginner’s Guide To Creating Perfect Video Tutorials

There are a plethora of good – and bad – video tutorials out there. How do you make yours stand out?

Ever thought about what it takes to make a great video tutorial? Here at Key West Video, a large part of our corporate video production consists of creating corporate video tutorials for our clients that their customers will remember.

There is a stigma that video tutorials are boring, dull, and lack excitement. One of our jobs as content creators is to bring any mundane thing to life. Whether it is auto parts, factory equipment or oil rigs, we aim to create compelling content that viewers will be able to learn from.

One of the first things to keep in mind when setting out to create a video tutorial is your audience. Will this tutorial be for the masses or will it be used for internal training purposes? Does it serve to educate and inform or sell a product? You will need to decide this before stepping behind the camera.

The Essentials

The next question to ask yourself is what the essential parts of the tutorial are. By identifying these, you will be able to better navigate how to go about capturing footage/b-roll efficiently, instead of aimlessly shooting shots that may not be used in the tutorial itself. One good way to prepare for this is by having an outline or script that will determine what needs to be shot to complement any applicable voiceover/narration.

The Length

Another thing to consider is the overall length of the video tutorial as this will determine the amount of content you’ll need. For example, if your intentions are to shoot a tutorial on how to use a product, you’ll need to decide on how much is too much information. Can an extra minute be shaved off with onscreen titles? Do you require that additional animation set? Try your best to avoid any unnecessary repetition in order to better retain your audience’s attention and your corporate dollar.

The Aesthetic

One last thing to take note of is the aesthetic. It’s easy for viewers to lose interest when information is constantly being thrown at them. In fact, our attention spans are now shorter than ever. Animation, interesting imagery, and even an engaging voiceovers are all ways one can create engaging video tutorials and simplify complex information in ways audiences can easily digest.

Here at Key West Video, we provide a plethora of video services including video tutorials, infomercials and much, much more. For more info on the services we provide, check out our website today!

Our Top 3 Animation Styles In Corporate Video Production

With so many animation styles out there, it can be difficult determining which one to go with – especially in corporate video.

And with all animation styles comes their own look.

At Key West Video, we offer a number of services – including animation. But sometimes our clients aren’t sure which ones best apply to their brand or product. Here we’ve compiled a list of some of the most popular animation styles we find ourselves using in our corporate video:

Whiteboard

Our Top 3 Animation Styles In Corporate Video Production

Whiteboard, one of the more popular animation styles, is the process of creating a story using drawings and storyboards with pictures on a white backdrop (or whiteboard). most often used in television, whiteboard can also be seen on internet video services such as YouTube or Vimeo, as well. It’s often used interchangeably with animated doodling or video scribing.

2D vector style animation

2D vector style animation (also known as motion graphics) are another type of animation style that we use often. Using bitmaps and vector graphics, it is more suited for computer animation software such as Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, or Flash. As opposed to 3D (or three-dimensional) animation graphics, 2D vector style animations have a lesser appearance of depth. 2D also consists of flat animation as opposed to 3D, which has an extra dimension of ‘realism’ and sits on the z-axis. 2D animations are made by drawing each frame out.

Infographics

Though many understand infographics as still images, they can actually be animated, as well. In a process similar to interactive video, infographics can be brought to life in Adobe’s After Effects software. Animated infographics are a fun, easy way to provide vital information to an audience. Here’s a simple guide on how to create basic infographics onscreen.

The Five Most Recent Trends in Video Production

Video production is always in a state of change. Staying on top of recent trends is the only way to remain relevant amidst fierce video competition.

At times, it can be hard to keep up with the constant fluidity in the video production world. Here we’ve identified some of the more popular recent trends that have helped us stay on top of our game.

360 video

The Five Most Recent Trends in Video Production

360 videos are videos that shoot surrounding areas simultaneously. In other words, this spherical camera is able to shoot a particular scene from all angles (aka 360 degrees) at the same time, making for a well-rounded, all-encompassing view. Here at Key West Video, we look for avant-garde technology that helps us stay on our toes with the latest trends.

VR/AR

The Five Most Recent Trends in Video Production

As we move further into the world of alternate reality, it’s clear that the future of video production lies in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). With the use VR glasses/goggles, viewers can see [un]real versions of video content. Operating similarly to 3D glasses, VR goggles take users into an alternate world manipulated by their senses.

Interactive

Interactive video, while not exactly the most recent trend, has taken the online video world by storm. With subjects inside the video being able to manipulate animated objects, interactive video has become one of the more popular options when it comes to creating corporate video.

Perfect for instructional video, infographs and charts, and tutorials, interactive video is an incredibly fun way to not only engage your audience but inform them, too.

We first saw glimpses of this when every brand from McDonald’s pop machines to bank ATM’s started using touchscreens

Animation

Without a doubt, animation is yet another popular recent trend in corporate video to really catch fire amongst the production company community. It offers a great opportunity for companies to develop a dynamic visual component to their corporate video, while including fun or visually appealing characters for a more enjoyable viewing experience.

At Key West Video, we make it our duty to stay on top of what’s trending in the video production industry. For more information on the services we provide, visit our website here.

How You Can Improve Your Video Marketing Campaign

When was the last time you invested into a proper video marketing campaign? Did you know what was ahead of you?

So you’ve made an attention-grabbing corporate video campaign that speaks directly to your audience.

You’ve done all the research, brought on the best possible team, and have shot your best footage.

You did all the work you thought was necessary for a great campaign, but for some reason, it doesn’t go as expected. So you reassessed.

And after you swept through all that could have gone wrong, the problem was there, staring back directly at you in the face.

You were missing five key components that could have made the world of difference had you recognized them the first time around.

They were:

Script

People often underestimate the importance of having a strong, air-tight script. In the corporate video world, not only do most corporate videos require an adequate amount of information, but they also require poignancy, brevity, and an enticing way to keep an audience engaged.

Graphics

Of equal importance are graphics. You’re most likely a corporate company striving to expand and maintain a professional image. It only makes sense that you want your  video marketing campaign to reflect as such. With that being said, graphics play an instrumental role in adding overall professionalism to your video content.

Footage

No matter how dry you may think your content is, any good corporate video production company (like us) should be able to pinpoint and identify the strongest, most compelling shots to go along with your video’s message.

Call to Action

Arguably the most forgotten-about segment of a video marketing campaign is the call to action. And by forgotten, we mean there is a significantly less amount of emphasis placed on a call to action when video marketers are trying to persuade their audiences to purchase their service or product.

Here at Key West Video, we specialize in customizing our video marketing strategies to suit our clients’ needs. For more information on the services we provide, visit our website today!

The Best Types of Cameras For The #Rio2016 Olympics

With the Olympics upon us, it might be difficult picking out a camera for major sporting events. For those wondering about the best types of cameras to use for when athletes are in motion, look no further.

For major sporting events, it’s important to have the right camera. Otherwise, you run the risk of capturing blurry images or footage. Here we’ve compiled a short list of some of our favourite cameras that we’d use at the Olympics:

Canon EOS-1D X Mark II DSLR

The Best Types of Cameras For The #Rio2016 Olympics

With a 20.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor and ability to deliver imagery at 16 frames per second when in live view (and 14 fps in viewfinder), the Canon EOS-1D gives great footage for live sporting events. Though not necessarily the fastest shutter speed, the 1D gets the job done.

Nikon D5 DSLR

The Best Types of Cameras For The #Rio2016 Olympics

The Nikon 5 DSLR is also another excellent choice for moving imagery. For fast-paced sports programs or moving animals, the Nikon’s 14 fps maximum continuous frame rate comes with a fixed focus and mirror lock-up. For full auto-exposure and precise focus lovers, the Nikon is also known for its ability to drop to 12 fps.

Nikon D500 DSLR

The Best Types of Cameras For The #Rio2016 Olympics

Equipped with a compact DX-format hardbody, the Nikon D500 is a slightly cheaper alternative to the D5, with much of the same 153-point Multi-CAM 20K phase-detect autofocusing. Shooting at 10 fps, the continuous shooting rate is up to 200 frames in a single burst. One other thing worth noting is it features 4K UHD video recording at 30 frames per second, and has multiple sharing options built-in such as SnapBridge Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology, and Near Field Communication (NFC).

Canon 7D Mark II DSLR

The Best Types of Cameras For The #Rio2016 Olympics

A Key West Video favourite, the 7D features a fast-action capture that relies heavily upon the 65-point all cross type phase-detection AF system, making it an excellent choice for sports like the Olympics. Operating at full HD 1080p video recording, it is supported at up to 60 frames per second and uses Dual Pixel CMOS AF for fast focusing for video and live view.

Here at Key West Video, we strive to give our clients the best camera quality money can buy. For more on our portfolio or services, visit us at our website today!

The More Absurd the Better? A Look At Weird Corporate Videos

Ever feel like companies go out of their way to bring us the most obscure, weird or straight up absurd content? Well, there may be a method to the madness.

Many companies have resorted to making absurd content in their marketing campaigns.

And while a lot of broadcasters and networks may reject the notion of absurdity, certain brands like Old Spice, Mountain Dew and Skittles have come to find the internet as the ultimate eclectic holy grail.

Even when companies use a cluster of different internet memes, it is never arbitrary.

If anything, it’s a strategy used to target a specific audience.

For instance, one of the most popular (and outrageous) marketing schemes is the Old Spice guy. After its viral success, Old Spice took to creating even more absurd print images like this:

The More Absurd the Better? A Look At Weird Corporate Video

While at first glance the images in the ad may seem like unrelated, they tie into Old Spice’s subtle-not-so-subtle message: “Become One of the Freshest Smelling Places on Earth”.

They’ve compiled a wide range of images that visually represent our interpretation of fresh smells on earth. Rivers. Green grass. Wild animals. Trees. Fire-breathing dragons. What more could we possibly ask for?

Jason Kreher, creative director at Wieden+Kennedy former involved with the Old Spice campaign, states that the silliness has to be taken seriously, as told by Mashable.

This is not to say that this fun-loving airiness is for everyone. For brands that reflect more serious subject matter with less room for comedic versatility (like PETA or human trafficking organizations, for example), it might not be wise to include such a level of absurdity in a corporate video campaign.

This is not to say that whacky creative freedom necessarily hurts or augments your brand.

But for companies open and able to adapt to current trends (or even better: start them!), it might be worth looking into the possibilities of wackiness. And if you’re company really knows its audience, your content can very well be tailored towards even more niche audiences.

Here at Key West Video, we pride ourselves on working well with our clients – no matter how absurd the idea is. For more information on our services, visit our website today!

A Look At MIT’s Interactive Dynamic Video Technology

It seems like the future of augmented and virtual reality is forever growing – this time with MIT’s newest interactive dynamic video technology.

MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL)’s interactive dynamic video technology (or IDV) might just be the cherry on top to AR and VR.

In reverse AR/VR, IDV places real life subjects in virtual worlds and digital interfaces.

By simulating the real world, IDV puts users into another world with easy interactions. Much like Snapchat and Pokemon GO, users are able to interact with ‘non-real’ elements through cameras and motion-tracking algorithms. Business Insider explains,

“The camera records a video of the vibrating object, and then algorithms translate this clip into a dynamic image (or simulation) that users can interact with on their screens. The new simulation looks identical to the original video, except that you can now push and pull the virtualized object represented in the image by using a mouse or other input device.”

One interesting thing that BI (and many other publications) point out is the expenses involved with augmented or virtual reality. Unlike VR headgear (which can cost a pretty penny), IDV can be created by virtually any videographer with a clip of real-world footage and a bit of basic CGI, and editing, masking, matting and shading tools.

IDV also allows its users to interact with the physical world itself. Unlike other AR operating systems or games where users cannot alter real-world objects on their screen, IV gives users the options to make adjustments to both their virtual and non-virtual reality.

IDV also blurs the lines between live-action and AR. In it, the elements interact with and are affected by each other. For example, in Pokemon GO, characters are superimposed on top of reality but do not affect it. If a Psyduck is rustling through leaves to avoid being caught by your Pokeball, its presence has no actual effect on the very real leaves around it. In IDV, however, users can play with and adjust their reality through their screen. Check out this awesome video:

Here at Key West Video, we’re fans of the latest trends technologies in video, AR, and VR, and pride ourselves on being loyal Pokemon Go fans. For more information on our services, visit our website today!

How Corporate Video Can Capitalize on Social Media Trends

It should go without saying that paying attention to social media trends is important in corporate video.

But with all the information out there, how can you capitalize on it? Social media trends can change as frequently as the seasons, and sometimes it can be difficult to stay on top of constant shifts.

According to Facebook, as of January 2015, the number of people who post videos on Facebook increased globally by 75% last year, and 94% in the US. And apparently, Facebook has averaged over a billion videos every day since 2014! With that one platform alone, that’s a huge market to tap into. So how do companies cut through the noise?

Well, we’ve discussed before how to secure solid video marketing strategies. One strong way is to capitalize on what is actually trending specifically to that platform. For example,  see a popular global hashtag on twitter? Make a short video statement that can potentially piggyback on that meme.

For example, just recently, the children’s show Arthur became a popular meme on both Twitter and Facebook. As a general rule of thumb, trending twitter topics that make it across platforms usually have a strong enough clout worth investing time in. One idea would be to 1. understand the meme and who it speaks to and 2. reach that audience with quick-witted advertising. Whether it’s an animation or a live-action dress-up, the trend has provided you with the tools. Now it’s your turn to use your creativity to craft it into something.

One company that brilliantly capitalized on a popular trend was The Salvation Army with a powerful PSA. By placing the ad in the context of domestic violence, they were able to send out a strong message that masterfully played on our emotions, and while the demonic dress trended for weeks, the timing could not have been more perfect.

How Corporate Video Can Capitalize on Social Media Trends

via The Salvation Army

Corporate video marketing can be viewed as a social media trend in itself. Despite it not having a singular platform, the fact that everyone is doing it makes it an almost imperative trend to follow. The difficulty comes with separating yourself from the pack.

Here at Key West Video, we specialize in creating memorable, unique video that lets you stand out. For more information on our services, contact us today!

Do #CorporateVideo Hotspots Actually Exist?

Last week, ProductionHub released a list of the top hotspots for video production – touting Houston, TX as number three.

We’re all aware of the media (film & TV) hotspots when it comes to North American cities. Los Angeles. New York. Toronto. Vancouver. Maybe even Atlanta.

But who would have thought that Houston would be considered a viable hub for video content?

According to ProductionHub, a global network for crew and vendors in the film and TV industry, more and more production companies are heading towards the southern state due to its corporate landscape.

Photo credit: Patty Mooney via Foter.com / CC BY-NC-SA

Photo credit: Patty Mooney via Foter.com / CC BY-NC-SA

“Many production companies that had traditionally placed all their eggs in the Hollywood or New York City baskets are now exploring the possibilities for shooting pilots and films in other, very appealing, markets such as Houston,” says spokeswoman Lauren Leetun.

“Available labor, talented production professionals, government incentives and a less-crowded marketplace have become very attractive to movie and TV producers, as you might expect.”

It leads one to wonder what this means for the state of video production.

Though the article particularly references film and television, this can also be applied to virtually any corporate video production house as well. The more studios and on-set locations there are, the more opportunities and resources there are for production crews from all media backgrounds.

As the need for corporate video content becomes more and more demanding, this is great news for production companies looking to expand.

According to this list, previously untouched gems such as Atlanta and San Francisco take the lead, while cities like Orlando and Baltimore trail behind.

Surprisingly enough, LA comes at 6th place just before Denver and Miami.

One reason could be tax incentives. For many American companies, it’s a lot cheaper to shoot and edit (or even outsource post-production) on Canadian soil. With Vancouver being a hotspot for post-production (i.e. computer graphics/animation, VFX etc.) and Toronto having a similar landscape to places like New York or Chicago, it only makes sense the Hollywood production companies are flying up north for their bread and butter.

Here at Key West Video, we frequently cross our borders to accommodate our clients. For more information on the services we provide, visit our website today.

How to Build Anticipation for Your #CorporateVideo

Ever wonder how you could possibly build audience anticipation with corporate video?

It seems like every other industry has it figured right down to a T. The music industry has Frank Ocean’s long-anticipated album, Beyonce is now infiltrating the docu-drama realm with cryptic imagery and video teasers, and movie trailers are giving us less and less while leaving more and more to the imagination.

What do these all have in common?

Well, they’ve mastered the art of suspense.

Just like the beginning of a rollercoaster drop, good visual content leaves audiences dying to know what’s next. It has us anxious and keeps us on our toes.

Anticipation means giving us butterflies before we’ve even had the experience.

How to Build Anticipation for Your #CorporateVideo

Photo credit: NASA HQ PHOTO via Foter.com / CC BY-NC-ND

And like all cross-platform content, there are lessons to be learned when it comes to soliciting potential audience engagement:

Less is More

What a lot of companies don’t realize is that their audiences are a lot smarter than they think. Humans are led by curiousity and having their interests piqued. Sometimes, the less you give them means more. If the imagery is poignant enough to stand on its own, why waste time with additional footage or dialogue explaining it? Let your content stand alone and tease it for no more than a few seconds. This can be well-executed especially if you are a previously established brand with a wide outreach.

Tease Content Through the Right Channels

Companies looking for a more ambiguous approach can tease their audiences with just enough information to get them excited, but not enough visuals, audio or text to really explain what it is they’re experiencing. It’s important to know where and how you plan to execute your game-changing video, and this starts with a thorough understanding of online presence and social media channels.

Announce at Peak Engagement Times

Anytime a company or content creator posts something, it should be done at peak hours in order to garner the most views and online interactions. Even if it’s just a tease, companies and content creators alike could benefit from implementing the Burrito Principle. This principle follows the idea that companies should engage during off hours when users are more likely to have time on their hands (e.g. like when they’re eating a burrito).

Here at Key West Video, we capitalize on the art of intrigue. By working directly with our clients, we give audiences as much – or as little – as they need. Contact us for a quote today!

Why You Should Have Updated Stock #Footage Just In Case

Most companies should have a heavy roster of stock footage on deck for rainy days.

And like anything kept in bulk, stock footage should be well-maintained.

Whether you’re looking to purchase footage, or get rid excess footage from a production, there is something both buyers and sellers should take note of; and that’s the type of footage they’re dealing with.

Why You Should Have Updated Stock #Footage

Photo credit: zimpenfish via Foter.com / CC BY-SA

Stock footage, at its core, is throwaway footage. Usually accumulated from a multitude of sets and locations, the footage is stored away to use for other productions. In the long run, having a heavy roster of stock footage can benefit both companies and filmmakers alike when it comes to having additional pre-shot content ready to use.

For those behind the scenes, it can be cost-effective; having that content can save time and money as production companies or brands won’t have to go through the process of rescheduling extra days for production. For videographers, editors, and virtually anyone behind the camera, keeping note of stock footage also means it can be made available for purchase online. In the past, we’ve mentioned a few resources for purchasing footage.

The word ‘stock’ itself is not limited to just one medium. Though it quite often refers to video, stock can also include music and images as well.

Ultimately shooting fast-motion content at a higher shutter speed makes for cool imagery, and in the long run, it gives it a wider appeal. Consider a waterfall: it can be difficult to capture each water droplet at a low shutter speed on a digital camera. Shooting at a higher shutter speed can give the illusion of a moving image or time-lapse, and removing the otherwise inevitable blur that comes with shooting moving objects.

Here at Key West Video, we strive to provide the best quality product available. Whether this means purchasing additional stock footage or shooting our own, we do our best to give you the best. For more on our portfolio or services, visit our website today!

Is Nintendo’s Pokémon Go Changing Alternate Reality?

With the recent release of the nostalgic game, Pokémon Go is revolutionizing the way we experience AR.

Pokémon GO has made it quite clear that it’s not only back – it just might be here to stay.the once popular hit game (and cartoon, video game, card game, and action movie) never really left our radar. In fact, it might even be more well-received now as a free downloadable app for Android and iOS users.

The once popular hit game (and cartoon, video game, card game, and action movie) never really left our radar. In fact, it might even be more well-received now as a free downloadable app for Android and iOS users.

Users from far and wide quickly downloaded the Nintendo AR game app and quickly got to catching. From

But does Pokémon GO do anything new for AR? Well, first let’s discuss its interface. When the app is opened, users find a simple playing field in which their character can roam. There are little to no immersive visuals. Only when a creature is spotted does the world switch to reality. The graphics themselves are comparable to something that can be created with GameSalad Creator.

The main incentive?

Interactive, social gamers. By nature, the game encourages interaction between players in order to understand what’s going on in the world and to battle in the gym.

Over the years, there has been a steady increase of interest in AR. Even if you weren’t completely familiar with it, you’ve more than likely have heard of AR in relation to virtual reality. Digital Media professor Richard Lachmann of Ryerson University compared Pokemon GO’s use of AR to Snapchat’s use of filters. When you really think about it, both operate similarly. All they really do is add an extra overlay of simple graphics onto your reality.

Who knows? It may even surpass alternate reality (AR) with its combined use of reality and graphics. It’s also a lot cheaper than having to purchase expensive VR headsets.

Part of its appeal is that little is actually explained in the app. There’s virtually no instruction as to what happens at a Pokéstop, or even how to catch Pokémon in the first place is left ambiguous. The game’s developers have left almost everything unexplained and up to the user.

Here at Key West Video, we consider ourselves fans of avant-garde video experiences. For more information on the services we provide, visit our website today.
