Why Does Your Company Need An Explainer Video?

An explainer video is an excellent way to convey information about a product, service, or brand.

An explainer video shows us the ins and outs of corporations through a corporate video, animations, commercials, or behind-the-scenes footage.

Confused? Well, let us explain.

Why Does Your Company Need An Explainer Video?

Explainer videos are used to explain concepts, procedures, or even products that can be difficult to explain otherwise. They break down not only what happens with a product, service, or at a company; they show the steps involved, too.

An explainer video can be a lot of fun. Most companies opt for the simple option: live-action actors (or employees) completing the action with either text or voice over running throughout the piece.

But for companies willing to take more of a creative risk, an explainer video can be vamped up in a myriad of ways.

Animation is one popular way of doing this is. An animation is a visually pleasing way to explain the corporate climate of a company. It can delve into the specifics of a training/instructional video, or explain the intricacies of how certain products are made. Recently, we animated an explainer video for Design Docs. It explored the many hats company higher-ups often have to wear:

Also, it goes without saying that animation will, by all means, include some voice acting. The tone and speed of the visuals dictate how animated the voice will be. This can set a great pace for an explainer video and help narrow down the most important aspects that need to be explained. Infographic explainer videos are also great for this as they explanations often directly follow the flow of the illustrations.

Here at Key West Video, we offer up a number of motion graphics and animation services. From infographics to whiteboard to 3D animated explainer videos, we’re here to service your needs. For more information about our services, visit our website today!

What Role Does Corporate Video Play in Making A Brand Memorable?

Ever wondered why some of your favourite brands have managed to stay so memorable over the years? Here we took a look at the role corporate video plays in creating strong content.

We all have that one memorable TV commercial that’s stayed with us over the years. Whether it’s Kellogg’s Cornflakes or Honey Nut Cheerios, we’ve all fallen victim at least once to the seductive show tunes and radio jingles.

But what about corporate video?

Forget social media; before the Internet became the essential part of society that it is today, there was this thing called the television. On this static box, it played images shared over an antenna that displayed on a televisual screen.

Between regularly programmed television shows, there were these things called “commercials” whose sole purpose was to advertise products to viewers before tuning back into their shows. Before video marketing became what it is today, many brands relied on TV advertisements/marketing as the print ad culture (through newspapers, specifically) began to decline.

And thus, the TV broadcast video commercial was born. In the 1940s. With Mr. Potato Head. Except with actual potatoes:

Now, in 2016, we’ve come a long way in our visual marketing. From video billboard ads to online social media marketing campaigns, we’ve progressed far away from traditional TV formats. And yet for some reason, we still find ourselves being lured back to programmed television.

What is it about television that keeps us coming back to this platform?

Well, to understand brand marketing in television, we must first look at it for what it is.

Some of our most memorable ads have been a thorough balance of ethos, pathos, and logos. They strengthen their credibility as either a reliable service or functional product by demonstrating the product/service in use. Often times, they include a story to appeal to our emotions (or “tug on our heartstrings”, if you will). They also appeal to our logic as being a sensible service/product to have in our everyday lives.

The best corporate videos are the ones that can seamlessly convey this without preaching it from the mountaintops. A strong corporate video will identify the weaknesses in the way a brand represents itself and play up its strengths. It will capture the essence of the brand and understand how to reach its target demographic.

Here at Key West Video, we specialize in establishing brands through corporate video and visual storytelling. For more information on the services we provide, visit our website.

The Truth About Corporate Videos and Kickstarter Campaigns

Ever wondered what it really takes to get Kickstarter campaigns to fly? If you guessed a strong video message, you just might be right.

Crowdfunding is never an easy task for anyone. Whether you’re a large brand or a new product company, it can be difficult conjuring up the funds for a specific cause. Crowdfunding, at its core, is asking for donations on the internet from people you both know and don’t know. You have a goal with a time-sensitive deadline. If it’s not met, it can be taken down. And sometimes it can be tough getting the word out in the first place. Cue Kickstarter campaigns.

The Truth About Corporate Videos and Kickstarter Campaigns

Kickstarter campaigns are designed to raise funds for various reasons. Sometimes, they are used for (PSAs) public service announcements by larger companies, creative projects, business ventures, or good causes by the community at large. Now, when it really comes to driving home a message, Kickstarter videos play a significant role in grabbing people’s attention. There is a significantly higher chance of receiving funding when a campaign introduces video. They function as most corporate videos do: they let people know who you are, they explain or explore the idea (or story behind it), and they give back to the audience a chance to feel they are contributors to the future of your brand, cause, or initiative. They want to connect to something before the commit to it. They want to feel as though their hard-earned money is being well spent. Believe it or not, people actually do want to invest themselves into something – whether it is time, money, or supporting something positive.

When it comes to creating conceptual ideas for Kickstarter video campaigns, really think critically about who you are. How passionate are you about this project or initiative, and what is the best way to convey this passion to the masses?

Your Kickstarter should also be transparent; clue people in on what you’re doing, why you’re doing it (or why it’s necessary), and the exact steps you intend on taking in order to achieve that very tangible goal. Back up your content with facts and statistics. Use still images if you have to. Create a compelling script for on camera or voiceover that will prompt people to take action.

Speaking of action, don’t forget to make a call-to-action. This is essential to your video and needs to be done as soon as possible. While not preachy, you must create a sense of urgency that will lead others to want to help you within a tight timeframe.

Here at Key West Video, we work with all types of clients to create strong, effective, successful, and compelling Kickstarter videos. For more information about the services we provide, visit our website today.

The 5 Major Types of Corporate Training Video Production

People don’t often realize the different types of training there are in the corporate world.

And when it comes to corporate video production, knowing how to shoot the right kind of training video is essential when working with clients.

At Key West Video, we’ve had our fair share of corporate training videos, instructionals and much, much more. If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years, it’s that each client’s needs are different and specific, as is their training videos.

The 5 Major Types of Corporate Training Video Production

Photo credit: NEC Corporation of America via Foter.com / CC BY

Here we’ve compiled a list of some of the top training videos we’ve become familiar with:

1. Dramatic Training Video

Depending on the type of company you are, a dramatic video might be ideal for you. In this, we work with clients to create something that will resonate with new – and old – employees. It most often involves a narrative of some sort and trained actors. We believe that creating a character a viewer can connect to makes the viewing experience more memorable, and helps the information stick.

2. Instructional Video

If you’re the kind of company that deals with intricate tools and very specific methods, then instructional video is for you. In the past, we’ve worked with clients to provide detailed instructions in their tutorial videos that make it easy for a newcomer to grasp. It’s also a great way to showcase a product or service while it’s in use! This can be done in a plethora of ways from live-action to animation.

3. Educational Video

From school boards to non-profit organizations, we’ve worked with a wide range of clients who seek to educate their audiences with video. Educational videos should inform and entertain a viewer, all the while giving them the relevant information they need. A good educational video should answer all of their questions (the 5 W’s and How?) and retain their attention.

4. Safety Orientation Video

Sometimes the job requires a refresher among employees. We provide safety orientation videos to show how our clients’ employees can stay safe while on the job. A strong, professionally produced video will make sure your team knows the rules and works safely as well as efficiently.

5. E-Learning Video

Lastly, we create e-learning videos. For our tech-inclined clients, sometimes information is best conveyed through an online curriculum. We place a huge emphasis on attention to detail and technological intricacies to ensure a strong, yet fully-functional, e-learning video.

Why Localizing Corporate Videos In Marketing Matters

There was a time when companies didn’t care to localize their content.

But now with a cross-national market, localizing your content is of the utmost importance.

What do we mean by that? Well generally, localizing just means making your content specific to the region you’re trying to market to. Not all marketing messages translate well to different areas. What’s written in English might not make sense in Spanish. What speaks to a younger generation might be gibberish to senior. What reaches an urban community might not be understood by rural, less populated areas.

For example, in 2002, the California Milk Processor Board launched it’s ‘Got Milk?’ campaign. In Spanish. While the exact (rough) Spanish version was translated as ‘Tienes Leche?’ (intended to mean ‘Are You In Possession of the Popular Beverage Known as Milk?’) it actually translated to ‘Are You Lactating?‘. An embarrassing (but memorable) mistakes, this is just one of the many ways in which a failure to localize content can cause a marketing catastrophe.

Clearly, your goal should be to create content that is universal. This means a clear, poignant message that can be easily understood in different cultures, traditions, and languages. Animations work well. Silent film also works. Moving stills (for PSAs) send strong messages across the board. Something that elicits awe and inspiration works well across the board and succeeds in getting a message across – no matter who the audience is. It also avoids the potentiality of drawing on harmful stereotypes when attempting to reach a different culture.

Why Localizing Corporate Videos In Marketing Matters

If your video contains any sort of conversation with a character, it might be worth looking into dubbing. To avoid making mistakes like the ‘Got Milk’ campaign, consider hiring someone who can not just translate, but also interpret your message.

Another option is subtitling. In the past, we’ve highlighted some of the benefits to both voice dubbing and subtitling. Depending on the length and pace of the video, subtitling can be an excellent tool to get your message across. It also provides the added benefit of reaching an audience who might be hard of hearing.

TIFF And Its Relationship With Corporate Video Production

It’s that time of year again when the city is filled with lights, camera, and action. It’s TIFF season.

And like most of the city, we’re also excited about all the hoopla that comes with TIFF.

A few years ago, Key West Video had the pleasure of taking it to the streets. We interviewed TIFF-goers on what the buzz was!

But what we noticed was something interesting: TIFF films with high-ranked actors/celebrities tended to generate the most buzz. From well-known directors to A-list celebrities/actors, we realized that people tended to gravitate more towards those films. It didn’t really matter what the subject matter was or how enticing the trailers were – people were going simply because others would be there.

This made us think.

What if corporate video could emulate this same formula. Would it issue the same response?

Well, perhaps.

Some of our most memorable corporate video commercials featured celebrities in them. Old Spice knew this all too well with the casting of actor and former NFL wide receiver Isaiah Amir Mustafa, also known as the ‘Old Spice Guy‘.

Assuming a client has it well within their budget, why not feature a well-known face to add to the corporate video campaign? Depending on the nature of the project (e.g. video marketing), a popular subject might add increased visibility to your corporate video and potentially lead to added sales. In 2010, former NFLer Troy Polamalu was the face of Head and Shoulder’s hair commercial. Proactive would also get proactive with its marketing, casting everyone from Adam Levine to Jessica Simpson to Katy Perry.

TIFF And Its Relationship With Corporate Video Production

Another added benefit is influence. Not only does this method increase visibility, it also increases reach. What’s the difference, you ask? Well, while visibility is great for getting your brand out there, reach pertains more to how directly you are able to interact with your audience. Will you feature a call to action? Will your audience feel compelled to visit your website? How will your campaign be memorable? These are all questions to consider while deciphering the TIFF method.

Here at Key West Video, we work with our clients to ensure that their vision is seen and their message is heard. Visit our website for more information on the services we provide today!

How Corporate Video Production Affects Your Engagement

One of the most important things to keep in mind when conceptualizing corporate video is audience engagement.

Retention, interest, and engagement are all things that most companies compete for.

In fact, it’s what drives the competition. With so many competitors in multiple sectors and industries, how on earth do you grab a hold of a piece of the pie?

Well, for one, you’ve got to really understanding who they are and how they consume content. This means investing in ample research to find where your audience is at, what channels they go through, and what trends they might hop on next.

To take it even further, it’s worth investigating their engagement.

What’s that, you ask?

According to Business 2 Community, there is no “one size fits all” formula when it comes to setting up tried-and-true engagement methods. It’s even harder to define what ‘engagement’ means in the first place. For the purposes of corporate video, perhaps it can be described as:

  • content that promotes direct user interaction with the product, brand or service
  • content that users/viewers find helpful in their search for information

To some, it’s less about what message the brand wants to send, and more about what the audience takes away from it. A user who reads a product description or watches an informative video may find it of value, though there sometimes isn’t a tangible way of knowing this.

Business 2 Community defines engagement as “something that successfully inspires the action it was designed to instigate.”

In a previous post, we highlighted how video stimulates our senses. By having a visceral reaction to a visual, we’re more prompted to respond to information presented to us.

How will your corporate video engage your audience?

How You Can Improve Your Video Marketing Campaign

When was the last time you invested into a proper video marketing campaign? Did you know what was ahead of you?

So you’ve made an attention-grabbing corporate video campaign that speaks directly to your audience.

You’ve done all the research, brought on the best possible team, and have shot your best footage.

You did all the work you thought was necessary for a great campaign, but for some reason, it doesn’t go as expected. So you reassessed.

And after you swept through all that could have gone wrong, the problem was there, staring back directly at you in the face.

You were missing five key components that could have made the world of difference had you recognized them the first time around.

They were:

Script

People often underestimate the importance of having a strong, air-tight script. In the corporate video world, not only do most corporate videos require an adequate amount of information, but they also require poignancy, brevity, and an enticing way to keep an audience engaged.

Graphics

Of equal importance are graphics. You’re most likely a corporate company striving to expand and maintain a professional image. It only makes sense that you want your  video marketing campaign to reflect as such. With that being said, graphics play an instrumental role in adding overall professionalism to your video content.

Footage

No matter how dry you may think your content is, any good corporate video production company (like us) should be able to pinpoint and identify the strongest, most compelling shots to go along with your video’s message.

Call to Action

Arguably the most forgotten-about segment of a video marketing campaign is the call to action. And by forgotten, we mean there is a significantly less amount of emphasis placed on a call to action when video marketers are trying to persuade their audiences to purchase their service or product.

Here at Key West Video, we specialize in customizing our video marketing strategies to suit our clients’ needs. For more information on the services we provide, visit our website today!

The More Absurd the Better? A Look At Weird Corporate Videos

Ever feel like companies go out of their way to bring us the most obscure, weird or straight up absurd content? Well, there may be a method to the madness.

Many companies have resorted to making absurd content in their marketing campaigns.

And while a lot of broadcasters and networks may reject the notion of absurdity, certain brands like Old Spice, Mountain Dew and Skittles have come to find the internet as the ultimate eclectic holy grail.

Even when companies use a cluster of different internet memes, it is never arbitrary.

If anything, it’s a strategy used to target a specific audience.

For instance, one of the most popular (and outrageous) marketing schemes is the Old Spice guy. After its viral success, Old Spice took to creating even more absurd print images like this:

The More Absurd the Better? A Look At Weird Corporate Video

While at first glance the images in the ad may seem like unrelated, they tie into Old Spice’s subtle-not-so-subtle message: “Become One of the Freshest Smelling Places on Earth”.

They’ve compiled a wide range of images that visually represent our interpretation of fresh smells on earth. Rivers. Green grass. Wild animals. Trees. Fire-breathing dragons. What more could we possibly ask for?

Jason Kreher, creative director at Wieden+Kennedy former involved with the Old Spice campaign, states that the silliness has to be taken seriously, as told by Mashable.

This is not to say that this fun-loving airiness is for everyone. For brands that reflect more serious subject matter with less room for comedic versatility (like PETA or human trafficking organizations, for example), it might not be wise to include such a level of absurdity in a corporate video campaign.

This is not to say that whacky creative freedom necessarily hurts or augments your brand.

But for companies open and able to adapt to current trends (or even better: start them!), it might be worth looking into the possibilities of wackiness. And if you’re company really knows its audience, your content can very well be tailored towards even more niche audiences.

Here at Key West Video, we pride ourselves on working well with our clients – no matter how absurd the idea is. For more information on our services, visit our website today!

How Corporate Video Can Capitalize on Social Media Trends

It should go without saying that paying attention to social media trends is important in corporate video.

But with all the information out there, how can you capitalize on it? Social media trends can change as frequently as the seasons, and sometimes it can be difficult to stay on top of constant shifts.

According to Facebook, as of January 2015, the number of people who post videos on Facebook increased globally by 75% last year, and 94% in the US. And apparently, Facebook has averaged over a billion videos every day since 2014! With that one platform alone, that’s a huge market to tap into. So how do companies cut through the noise?

Well, we’ve discussed before how to secure solid video marketing strategies. One strong way is to capitalize on what is actually trending specifically to that platform. For example,  see a popular global hashtag on twitter? Make a short video statement that can potentially piggyback on that meme.

For example, just recently, the children’s show Arthur became a popular meme on both Twitter and Facebook. As a general rule of thumb, trending twitter topics that make it across platforms usually have a strong enough clout worth investing time in. One idea would be to 1. understand the meme and who it speaks to and 2. reach that audience with quick-witted advertising. Whether it’s an animation or a live-action dress-up, the trend has provided you with the tools. Now it’s your turn to use your creativity to craft it into something.

One company that brilliantly capitalized on a popular trend was The Salvation Army with a powerful PSA. By placing the ad in the context of domestic violence, they were able to send out a strong message that masterfully played on our emotions, and while the demonic dress trended for weeks, the timing could not have been more perfect.

How Corporate Video Can Capitalize on Social Media Trends

via The Salvation Army

Corporate video marketing can be viewed as a social media trend in itself. Despite it not having a singular platform, the fact that everyone is doing it makes it an almost imperative trend to follow. The difficulty comes with separating yourself from the pack.

Here at Key West Video, we specialize in creating memorable, unique video that lets you stand out. For more information on our services, contact us today!

Things to Consider When Mapping Out Your Marketing Strategy

A foolproof marketing strategy is essential to an effective marketing campaign.

And a sound marketing strategy, though essential, is also highly subjective depending on your company’s needs. Whether you’re a local bakery or a major tech corporate, one thing that most companies share in common is their need for a large enough reach for their business.

Here we take a look at some of the key factors involved when planning out what your video marketing strategy:

Resources

Marketing Land, a digital marketing publication, pointed out that knowing what resources you have is instrumental in the process. Identifying your resources will help you tell your story. That pre-planning will allow you to figure out what kind of message or story you can tell with the resources available to you.

Platform

Companies sometimes think that posting their videos on a video streaming platform such as YouTube or Vimeo (or worse, their own website) is the be all end all of video marketing.

This could not be further from the truth.

Creating a video and then launching it into the universe simply isn’t enough. Companies must be strategic in choosing which social media platforms best stream certain content. For example, Facebook has proven time and time again that it can be an invaluable source of potential visibility when users share content. Judging by the sheer amount of content online, Facebook users have shared videos with compelling, entertaining or informative content in the thousands. How can your company create something specific to this platform that users will want to spread across their feeds? Is it universal enough? Does it appeal to their audience? What sort of impact will it have? That will determine the message, content length, and overall aesthetic to the project.

Analytics

Companies who assess how their videos will be received are the ones who are able to make effective strategies. Usually, these are companies who’ve had success in the past with content creation and have an understanding of how to measure video metrics.

Many marketing gurus will point out that simply getting a high number of views (or going viral) is not enough. Instead, companies would benefit from really understanding video analytics. On average, how long are people sticking around to watch your video? This affects how long you can make the next one. How many times were your videos repeated? This will determine the type of shareability of your content. What was the drop-off rate (or visitors flow)? The more you narrow down your analytics (even to individual user patterns), the better you become at understanding them.

KISS

Keep it simple, silly.

No, really.

Audiences nowadays have shorter attention spans, making it difficult to create content longer than a few minutes.

This is not only important for audience retention. It’s also cost-effective for production. Sticking to concise videos makes it easier on both a production crew to create premium quality in a tighter timeframe.

Here at Key West Video, we specialize in working directly with our clients to develop the best possible marketing strategies through a visual medium. For more information on our services, visit our website today!

Social Media Storytelling and Corporate Video

We often overlook the ways corporate video can utilize the power of storytelling. What would happen if we took full advantage of tools to improve our marketing strategies?

Storytelling is in everything we do. We as humans crave the drama in a good story – we ache for details, cringe at tragedy and long for happy endings. We require some persuasive appeal to make a decision.

We have an unconscious need to be nudged.

Here are some ways your company can improve its social media marketing strategy through online storytelling:

1. Following Story Structure

Social Media Examiner references Freytag’s pyramid as a powerful tool for story structure. It separates a story into five major arcs: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. Like most narratives, social media storytelling must follow some flow. Otherwise, the message becomes lost. Think of ways in which your company can emulate these aspects. How can you best explain your marketing initiative in a subtle, but succinct way? What sort of investment can your business draw out of its audience? What is the gratifying climactic point? Is there an emotional payoff? And how will your story conclude?

For marketing campaigns with clear intentions, creating a solid story structure not only sends the message home but keeps viewers coming back for more.

2. Using Story Ads

By telling your ads in story-form, viewers are more likely to engage and interact with your content. Online ads such as Facebook advertisements are great ways to expand your reach.

It only makes sense that companies should take advantage of this opportunity to engage with their viewers. With compelling content and a clear call to action, story ads can prove highly beneficial to corporate companies looking to expand their online presence.

Check out these awesome social media advertisements that utilize storytelling in the most creative ways.

3. Adding Audience Value

By incorporating an interconnected system, you distance yourself from just branding and allow your business to cater to your customers’ values. What do they care about? And how can you include this in your company’s brand packaging?

This is your opportunity to develop your core audience, develop a communication strategy that speaks directly to them, and create a forum in which there is a two-way avenue for extensive outreach and connection. Give them an incentive to interact with you.

4. Telling Familiar Stories

…is yet another strategy based on your audience. Familiarity humanizes your brand and shows your audience that you are not only paying attention to what they care about, but also indicates that you care about what they do. It’s a way for audiences to familiarize themselves with a product or service that might be entirely new to them.

5. Unique Value Proposition (UVP)

Last but not least, you’ll need a Unique Value Proposition (UVP) to drive the message home. At its core, a UVP describes why consumers should choose your company. It’s a clear statement that offers the benefits of selecting you, how you can solve others’ needs and why you stand out. It’s a repeated message all over your brand and should be on virtually every aspect of your company including your website’s main page and social media.

Here at Key West Video, we specialize in curating our client content to help them better reach their audience. For more information on the services we provide, visit our website today.

Why You Should Repurpose Your Corporate Video

What happens when the corporate video you’ve already made and shared it with the world doesn’t get you the results you want? Repurpose it!

Many think that when their videos don’t get the traffic or views that they want, that there’s something wrong with the content. In a panic, they immediately take it down. In some extreme cases, they act as if the video never existed and shelf it. What they don’t realize, however, is that a repurpose is all it takes to get their video to where it needs to be.

In the marketing world, copy is constantly written, edited, and rewritten. More often than not, it isn’t completely taken down. Copywriters understand the value of words and how necessary it is to have those digital crumbs seeded on the internet.

But for some reason, this same approach isn’t applied to corporate video.

Why?

Well, for one, many think it simply isn’t possible. They don’t even realize that videos can be repurposed to improve its SEO, better reach their target audience, or refresh outdated information. Here we list some ways in which you can repurpose your corporate video for a better reception:

Transcribe

Transcribing your videos has its benefits for obvious reasons. Not only is it inclusive of those who suffer from hearing loss, but it’s also an added benefit to able-bodied persons as well. By transcribing your video, you’re making it easier to digest your content for your viewers and can serve as the source for potential blog content.

It also has the added benefit of becoming more search-friendly since it can be indexed on Google and YouTube.

Shorten Videos Into Clips

Millennials are known to have shorter attention spans than ever. In fact, it’s hard to engage us after 2 minutes. That means that in 120 seconds, you’ve got to capture and keep your audience’s attention long enough to make a call to action. This is a lot harder than it sounds.

When creating video content, map out where you’d like your video to go. YouTube virtually has no limit to the length of the video you can upload. Most users upload their content to social networks like Facebook to increase their view count. Companies can also look to Facebook as a direct uploading video source, as Facebook allows longer videos than those of its competitors (Twitter and Instagram). However, this doesn’t necessarily mean your audience will stick through your video to the end. Twitter and Instagram knew this and quickly took advantage of creating a short video sharing limit to their already popular platforms.

Some ways you can tighten up and repurpose already existing content is by:

  • Stringing explainer or testimonial videos together
  • Captioning video to provide additional onscreen information
  • Using poignant interview clips and quotes in a series of FAQs about your company

For more information on how you can repurpose video content, visit ReelSeo’s blog post here. We at Key West Video work directly with our clients to ensure their content is quality. Visit our website for more today!

Types of Corporate Video: Which One Should You Be Using?

Sometimes our clients aren’t sure what types of corporate content they should be putting out.

If you’re like most progressive companies, you’re looking for ways to increase your online reach. Creating corporate videos are one way to engage your audience in an interesting, visually compelling way. But what types of video should you be using?

A lot of non-creative companies find themselves at odds with the type of content they want. After all, it can be hard to decipher the best way to showcase your product or service when you’ve never had to create a video clip, write a script, or reach out to a production company like us.

We’ve got you covered.

If you’re ever at odds with the kind of corporate video you want, consider the following types of professional video:

The Explainer Video

The ‘explainer’ video (otherwise known as a video tutorial) is a powerful visual tool that can be used to get to the nitty gritty of your product or service. With compelling visuals, quick shots, time-lapses, and enticing voiceover, any brand can turn an otherwise dull instructional video into a highly intriguing explainer video.

The Product/Service Overview

An overview can supplement an explainer video, or stand alone. Generally, overview videos ‘review’ your product or service. They show your audience how to use your brand and show how user-friendly it is. Practicality is essential when introducing new product.

The Presentation

Another type of corporate video is the presentation video. A lot of times, this means a corporate video production company will attend a live presentation. Whether it is live-streamed or recorded and edited later, larger corporations benefit from video showing the inner-workings of the corporate community. It’s also a direct way to spread company knowledge to its viewership – especially when it comes directly from the source.

The Event Coverage

Event coverage is an easy way to expand viewership and create interesting content. Event coverage is almost always entertaining, with high energy and fast cutaways. They’re meant to show the fun in corporate climates.

The Testimonial

Nothing beats a good testimonial. Usually coming from customers, testimonials are a powerful tool meant to boost the credibility of your company. They are a direct way of showing off the results of your product or service, and can sway unsure buyers into choosing you. Testimonials from high-profile guests, valued customers, or those with social media pull can greatly elevate your presence both on and offline.

The Interview

Lastly, we have the interview. Like the presentation, this type of corporate video gives audiences information directly from the source. But unlike the presentation, the interview can either be a lot more (or less) formal. It’s also a lot more personal, giving your audience an up-close view of what employees have to say.

Here at Key West Video, we do all types of corporate video. We work with our clients to ensure their corporate visual needs are met. Visit our website for more information on our services today!

Marketing Strategies and Memes in the Corporate World

Corporate companies have been known to hop onto popular trends when creating a new marketing strategy. But what about memes?

Memes have become a huge part of our Millennial culture. We’ve seen more companies go to greater lengths to reach younger audiences. Now with the influence of memes, it’s hard to say whether these internet mimicries will infiltrate the corporate marketing world.

In case you were wondering what a meme is, it functions as a popular element of our culture or behaviour that’s passed along from one person to another.

In our current social media age, Internet memes have done just that, often reflecting popular trends, news, and nostalgic references.

Here we’ve compiled a list of things to consider when deliberating if you should use memes.

Audience

You’ve heard us talk about the importance of knowing your audience before, but here’s another reminder. If you’re still reading this, your target audience is probably Generation Y and younger. Knowing your audience then becomes a bit more strategic; you’re no longer targeting an age group, you’re targeting people based on their interests. Sports fans. Music fans of multiple genres. Fandoms of various shows and movies. The whole shebang. Make sure you understand who you’re speaking to.

Social Media Trends

When it comes to memes, timing is of utmost importance. Unless your meme content is strong (or memorable enough) to stand alone, memes are almost always made right after a popular event. Twitter is infamous for using the popular ‘Crying Jordan’ meme for sports events and awards shows. More specifically, it’s often photoshopped onto the face of someone who’s experienced a loss of some degree.

For example, when the Golden State Warriors lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2016 NBA Finals, the Crying Jordan meme was instantaneously photoshopped onto Steph Curry’s body and spread across the Twitterverse.

Relevance

Nothing screams embarrassing more than an outdated meme. The content must be relevant. The subject of your meme should be easily recognizable by a multitude of people. Only then will it resonate and spread. Memes are most effective when they reflect current or recent events and go viral through social media.

Here at Key West Video we create fun, ‘memeable’ content on demand. For more on our services, visit our website today!

Infomercials: Should Your Company Invest In Them?

We’ve all seen infomercials on our evening television. But at what point should your company consider creating one, or flat-out leave them alone?

Infomercials are an interesting way to get a message across.

We say interesting because they’ve been used so heavily since the introduction of the Golden Age of Television. Since the rise of consumerism in the 50s, we’ve become all too familiar with the late night television.

Infomercials (otherwise known as paid programming), have been dominating our post-primetime screens. Rumoured to have begun as early as the 50s, we’ve been saturated with late night products and pushy television salespersons.  We’re urged to buy Dolly Parton’s greatest hits. The latest cars. A plethora of household items that we simply don’t need.

Almost every single infomercial is the same. Demonstrate the product in a non-practical, almost comical way. Advertise its benefit to the customer. Emphasize the low price. Enthusiastically urge the consumer to whip out his or her credit card.

As entertaining as they may be, they’ve served their purpose. Many would argue that it is an outdated form of advertising. Some would even go so far as to say that the infomercial is dead.

Nevertheless, we are still in an age of televisual marketing. And infomercials still bring in a whole lot of money.

With our new age platforms always demanding our attention, the question now becomes: do we need infomercials?

The answer isn’t exactly simple. Here we take a look at some of the reasons for infomercials:

1. Instant Information

Infomercials speak to us directly. Though they typically rely on traditional media, they give us what we need. Why do we need this product? What makes this particular brand stand out from the rest? Is this new invention innovative? Will it help better our lives?

That is the ultimate test.

2. Engaging

If infomercials weren’t engaging, they wouldn’t be estimated at a whopping almost $100 billion dollars. And for broadcasters who sign off in the wee hours of the night, infomercials have taken over. In fact, they’ve become so successful they’re now given 30-minute programming slots.

Clearly, they’re paying off.

Consider commercials like the infamous ‘Slap Chop’. Enough said.

3. Deliberate

They prey on us. They call out our desires and make us want things we don’t need. They play on our psyche. They insist that we can’t live without this particular product or service and that if we don’t respond to the call to action right away, we’re missing out on something big.

It’s all a lie.

Infomercials are there to weed out the weak from the strong. And they’re deliberate. Buy at your discretion.

It’s unclear whether or not companies make long-lasting relationships with their consumers through infomercials. But one thing is for sure – infomercials are a highly profitable way to get your business out there.

Here at Key West Video, we create compelling video that could probably compete with the average three a.m. infomercial. For more on our services, visit our website today!

Traditional Media vs. New Media in Corporate Video

Since the introduction of new media, traditional mediums have found it difficult to compete.

And for corporate companies, the decision between new media versus traditional media can be a tough one.

In order to know how to market content to specific audiences, we must first observe how consumers use media.

Traditional Media

Traditional media relies on sending out a single message to a broad audience. When you think about it, it operates similarly to two tin cups and a string. It only offers one-way communication.

Traditional media also uses older mediums such as radio, television, newspaper and magazine ads. They’re what we’re familiar with. In fact, we’ve been using them for decades. They’ve rung tried and true when it comes to reaching the masses.

Whether we realize it or not, however, we often still do use traditional media. It’s what we listen to when we’re warming up our vehicles. It’s what we read when we’re waiting at the barbershop or hair salon. It’s what we see on television when our Internet is down.

Is it an outdated medium?

That’s for you to decide.

New Media

New media reflects where the state of our video marketing is headed right now. Since the rise of social media, advertisers have flocked to new media as viable avenues to send out multiple messages. New media is able to isolate a particular audience, making it easier for marketers and advertisers to reach their targeted audience.

New media also uses data and online analytics to monitor its reach. By getting a report on what works and what doesn’t new media is able to revamp, retouch or redo it’s marketing approach altogether.

It usually consists of online platforms such as social networks, online video, and online streaming.

Finding Balance

Most companies find themselves polarized. This is a misconception. The tricky part is finding an equal balance between both. And believe us, it is possible.

Traditional media can be used to reach the masses. If your message is generic and all-encompassing enough, it may be worth considering using older, traditional mediums.

If you’re looking to reach a specific audience based on their age, race, or marital status etc., new media is the way to go. Not only is it tailored, it’s also easy to track. Curating online information leaves a trail of digital breadcrumbs. Companies are able to put the pieces together through analytical systems like Google Analytics and track the progress of their advertising.

As consumers, we’re an advertiser’s worst nightmare. We often use both traditional and new media on a daily basis. Between Millennial hipsters and the Baby Boomer generation, we’re a bag of mixed gems.

Ideally, a balance of both will make for a successful marketing campaign. We at Key West Video are able to work with clients who prefer with “generation” of media. For more info on our services, visit our website today!

Is Transmedia the Future of Corporate Video Marketing?

Transmedia is making more and more companies reconsider the way they reach their audiences.

Gone are the days when media relied on a single platform to get their message across.

Though transmedia storytelling typically relies on just that – storytelling – a lot of corporate companies can take away the tactics transmedia uses. Often, companies with larger budgets are able to create a movement with their marketing campaign. This means reaching mass audiences with content marketable enough to make it easy to carry across platforms.

In the entertainment world, a transmedia marketing campaign could mean building an entire world. Think of the Matrix franchise or popular DC or Marvel; they’ve built an entire universe dedicated to continuing the world. Their franchise is carried through merchandise, books/graphic novels, films, video games and more.

If you’re grappling with whether or not you should take the transmedic approach, consider weighing your options first. Is Transmedia the Future of Corporate Video Marketing?

Cons

First, let’s start with some of the reasons why companies would not want to go the transmedic route. One reoccurring reason might be that some companies fear their message not translating well across the different platforms. Undoubtedly, more work is required to format campaign messages to specific mediums. Some companies simply do not have a sizeable budget.

Understandable.

Another worry is when it comes to partnering up with other companies for marketing campaigns and promotions. It can be difficult to come up with a unified message in the first place when it comes to dealing with big corporations. When transmedia is involved, the message must not only be unified – it must be simple and strong enough to be understood by all parties involved.

This is the reason why a lot of artists operate independently with cross-platform market – it is easier to retain a singular, consistent message.

Pros

Some upsides to transmedia marketing are, of course, the reach. You are now reaching your audience in a multitude of ways. What’s more is that you are now also able to expand your audience. This means a wider range your brand can now access. It also means shaping your content for each platform in order to cater to different audiences. For example, if you were offering an online service, it would be safe to assume that a lot of your traffic would come from mobile users. This could translate to creating an app specifically for those users who are, on average, the Millennials and Generation Ys of our time.

Another upside is the idea of hiding clues in multiple areas. With a wider reach, you’re able to incorporate elements of your brand on different platforms. This adds a bit of fun to your marketing campaign; by planting ‘clues’, audiences are forced to participate differently in order to grasp your full outreach. Audience participation is essential to transmedic storytelling. It ensures that your audience is fully engaged. It gives the audience a sense of purpose by providing specific roles and goals for them to achieve. It is a way of fragmenting a message to really push your audience to think critically in a fun way.

So what will you choose? While transmedia comes with its own set of perks and downsides, it’s important to determine what platform(s) fit your message best and which audience you’re servicing.
