The Relationship Between Corporate Video and Industry Specific Video

Contrary to popular opinion, corporate video and industry specific video are not the same.

While corporate video is an umbrella term for literally all sorts of video pertaining to a corporation, company, brand, or professional entity, an industry-specific video is used particularly for a certain area of the public or private sector.

We’ve shot a wide range of industry-specific corporate videos over the years. From real estate to food to interior design, we’ve worked side-by-side with our clients to create informative videos that show audiences the ins and outs of that particular job sector.

Strong industry videos typically feature one key subject who is knowledgeable of the job, culture, and climate. He or she is usually filmed while in action. A lot of these sorts of videos (especially service videos) feature a series fo close-ups to give audiences a real sense what it’s like to do that particular type of work.

Take, for example, this corporate video we’ve done in the past for a restaurant. We showcase the work both behind and in front of the kitchen, the culture of happy customers and workers, and put the food on display. We’ve also featured workers and customers, having them state their experiences as both a customer and cook or waiter/waitress.

This isn’t too far off from corporate video itself. Often, corporate video will also highlight the culture, corporate landscape, and show employees doing the job itself. But it’s also an umbrella term that can be used for corporate interviews, company addresses, and video marketing. It’s safe to say that industry-specific video does fall under corporate video, but it is a lot less varying in degree.

Here at Key West Video, we specialize in a wide range of video production. Whether you’re in search of a production company that shoots industry-specific video or more generic corporate video, we do it all. Contact us for a quote today!

Thinking of Making An Advisory Video? Try These Video Techniques

If you’ve reached the point the point where you’re ready to take your brand to the next level, you’ll probably need an advisory video.

Advisory videos exist to, well, advise people. Its viewers are usually employees of a company, conglomerate, or corporation that are seeking the expertise of an advisor in a specific public (or private) sector.

Whether it’s real estate or finance, it’s most likely that your clients come to you for your insight and knowledge. A corporate advisory video should reflect as such. If you’re an independent advisor, consider the following:

1. Ethos

Establishing your credibility is of the utmost importance. When first coming into contact with a new audience or client, it’s essential that you first sell your credibility before anything else. After all, an advisor is someone who a paying client want to trust. Your honesty and demeanor is the first thing people will notice upon first contact – whether it is in person, or on camera. Listing past experiences, successes, as well as paying attention to body language and making eye contact with the camera makes it easier for an audience to want to trust you.

2. Message

Now that you’ve become comfortable behind the camera, what will you say? Advisory can sometimes be dry, dull, and boring. An advisory video is meant to bring your thoughts and ideas to life. One surefire way to do this is to abandon a script. Yes, you read us. Get rid of that rigid script that makes you sound like Frankenstein. Instead, have mental talking. points to address and reference from.

3. Visual Aids

Who wants to sit through a 10-minute video of a single talking head? Visual aids are necessary to spruce up your message and keep your audience engaged. In the past, we’ve found that many advisors prefer to use visual cues (animated infographics, for example) while they narrate over them.

Here at Key West Video, we specialize in creating long-lasting content for the B2B and B2C communities. For more information on the services we provide, visit our website today.

Why You Need A Production Company With An Actual Studio

You’d be surprised at the number of production companies that don’t have an actual studio.

And if not having a studio wasn’t enough, some production companies would even go so far as to not attain office space for their “employees”.

Why You Need A Production Company With An Actual Studio

Photo credit: theob via Foter.com / CC BY-NC

When considering what production company to go with, it’s important to do a bit of research into who they are, what they’ve done, how they operate, and who the key players are. There are a lot of production companies out there that produce stunning work and great video quality. They also consist of a few random guys who run a website and work from home.

Careful.

While there isn’t necessarily anything wrong with not having studio space, it does leave some room for questions of validity.

A production company without office space limits itself to field or on-location shoots, leaving less opportunity for indoor studio work. For some clients, this makes no difference; some prefer to have their corporate videos shot on-location or in-house. But for those who might want to widen the scope of their options, companies like Key West Video are ideal for versatility.

A production company with studio/office space assures a client that it not only takes itself seriously professionally but is also well-established and experienced. It’s been around long enough to occupy physical space and pays a rental fee to remain there. It is not only open for business – business is free flowing. It is also a place where clients can visit and speak to us one-on-one in a professional setting.

Through our studio space, we are able to extend our services to the following: greenscreen, training videos, corporate video blogs, studio rentals, actor services (such as workshops, demo reels, private coaching and self-tape auditions etc.). A literal, physical space also affirms accountability. Our clients are welcome to visit us anytime

A literal, physical space also affirms accountability. Our clients are welcome to visit us anytime with questions, concerns, personal involvement in the production process, or as silent supporters of the work we do for them as a client. We welcome our client’s interaction with our brand and would encourage any production company to take the steps towards doing the same.

Here at Key West Video, we specialize in creating professional, legitimate corporate videos to our diverse range of clients. For more information on the services we provide both inside and outside of our studio, visit our website today!

Why You Might Need A Corporate Video For A Company-Wide Address

Sometimes, the head of a corporation needs to address his or her employees.

And sometimes, that address must be televised.

Okay, well maybe not televised, but it does make it a lot easier to create a visual image or series of moving stills (aka a corporate video) to relay a message to the masses.

Major corporations with hundreds (and sometimes even thousands) of employees often need to send out messages to various department heads and applicable staff. This often includes memos, company-wide events, updates on new or existing changes to benefit and retirement packages, upcoming training events, conferences, and much, much more.

Sometimes, emails just don’t cut it. They get lost in translation and are susceptible to being forgotten about.

That’s where corporate video comes in.

Companies like us specialize in creating memorable, informative content that not only sticks in the minds of its viewers, but is strong enough to be ‘liked’, shared, and commented on.

Think of a corporate video company-wide address as the connecting thread between departments, employees, and new information. Often, a corporate address is given by a member of the board, top executives, or CEOs, CFOs or President his or herself.

It is ideal to create a corporate address to the camera for the purpose of visibility. It creates a sense of inclusion in larger companies in which employees may not feel valued individually. After all, larger corporations often tend to have thousands of employees and it is all too easy to feel like a drop of water in a large ocean. But when a high-ranking exec or department head addresses employees directly, it can make all the difference.

Production-wise, some ways to address the camera are: making direct eye contact, smiling, dressing simply (yet professionally), and exude confident body language. In the past, we’ve outlined our top tips for professionals when addressing their corporate company.

Here at Key West Video, we have a wide breadth of experience in creating corporate addresses for our clients. For more information on the services we provide, visit our website today!

Do You Need A Human Resources and Recruitment Corporate Video?

Ever seen a powerful recruitment video? HR representatives are now turning to corporate videos to attract more potential employees.

Contrary to popular belief, finding the right candidate is actually hard work. It takes a lot of time and effort to sift through all applications, resumes, and cover letters that come in once a job gets posted. And it can be especially tough for those who work in human resources and deal with recruitment on a regular basis.

But what if the job isn’t exactly the most glamourous job in the world? Sure, there will always be those looking for work (no matter what it entails or what the pay is like), but sometimes this also attracts candidates who simply aren’t qualified or a good fit for the job.

With the help of corporate video, HR reps can help speed along the recruitment process.

Corporate videos for the purposes of hiring potential employees are tailored a lot differently than marketing videos. They not only show the glitz and glamour of the job – they show the job for what it actually is. Their aim is to display the corporate culture and climate in a positive light while giving the ideal candidate an accurate and insightful look in to what it’s like to work at this particular company.

It’s just as important for a potential candidate to feel like your company is a good fit for them as they are for you.

A strong, powerful corporate recruitment video should not only showcase the benefits of your corporate culture, but also highlight the realistic expectations of what it means to work there. What is the team dynamic like? What benefits are included in the job? What will an employee’s day-to-day look like? And how happy are the employees who currently work there?

Your job as an employer is to ensure that all informative bases are covered in the recruitment video. A corporate video production company’s job is to ensure that this is done in the most enticing, visually-appealing way.

Here at Key West Video, we have extensive experience in collaborating with our clients to create fun, exciting, and informative HR recruitment videos. For more information on the services we provide, visit our website today!

The Truth About Corporate Videos and Kickstarter Campaigns

Ever wondered what it really takes to get Kickstarter campaigns to fly? If you guessed a strong video message, you just might be right.

Crowdfunding is never an easy task for anyone. Whether you’re a large brand or a new product company, it can be difficult conjuring up the funds for a specific cause. Crowdfunding, at its core, is asking for donations on the internet from people you both know and don’t know. You have a goal with a time-sensitive deadline. If it’s not met, it can be taken down. And sometimes it can be tough getting the word out in the first place. Cue Kickstarter campaigns.

The Truth About Corporate Videos and Kickstarter Campaigns

Photo credit: tobias feltus via Foter.com / CC BY-NC-ND

Kickstarter campaigns are designed to raise funds for various reasons. Sometimes, they are used for (PSAs) public service announcements by larger companies, creative projects, business ventures, or good causes by the community at large. Now, when it really comes to driving home a message, Kickstarter videos play a significant role in grabbing people’s attention. There is a significantly higher chance of receiving funding when a campaign introduces video. They function as most corporate videos do: they let people know who you are, they explain or explore the idea (or story behind it), and they give back to the audience a chance to feel they are contributors to the future of your brand, cause, or initiative. They want to connect to something before the commit to it. They want to feel as though their hard-earned money is being well spent. Believe it or not, people actually do want to invest themselves into something – whether it is time, money, or supporting something positive.

When it comes to creating conceptual ideas for Kickstarter video campaigns, really think critically about who you are. How passionate are you about this project or initiative, and what is the best way to convey this passion to the masses?

Your Kickstarter should also be transparent; clue people in on what you’re doing, why you’re doing it (or why it’s necessary), and the exact steps you intend on taking in order to achieve that very tangible goal. Back up your content with facts and statistics. Use still images if you have to. Create a compelling script for on camera or voiceover that will prompt people to take action.

Speaking of action, don’t forget to make a call-to-action. This is essential to your video and needs to be done as soon as possible. While not preachy, you must create a sense of urgency that will lead others to want to help you within a tight timeframe.

Here at Key West Video, we work with all types of clients to create strong, effective, successful, and compelling Kickstarter videos. For more information about the services we provide, visit our website today.

How Creative Should Your Corporate Video Concept Be?

When it comes to conceptualizing corporate video, one leading question is how creative the final product should be.

How far are companies willing to go in order to reach target audiences? And on the service end, how much creative freedom are they willing to give to corporate video production companies such as ourselves?

How Creative Should Your Corporate Video Concept Be?

Photo credit: Keith Allison via Foter.com / CC BY-SA

Over the years, we’ve come to realize just how creative corporate videos can really be. Typically when we’re approached with a potential new project, we’re often asked to drum up scenarios for online social media video campaigns or TV spots. This requires not only technical precision and skill (aka the real production side of things) but also forces us to look within ourselves to not only find our inner creativity but also to identify where our clients are coming from. Aside from setting a production timeline, budget, and equipment, we first focus on the goal, aesthetic, tone and message. Some questions worth asking are: what is the overall message you (the client) would like to send? How open is the client to artistic or creative ideas for their campaign? Who is their target audience? These are all valid questions that we, the production company, must ask before setting out to do any project.

Business2Community put out a fantastic listicle of corporate brands who’ve taken creative risks to create daring, but memorable, corporate video. One thing we’ve realized is that corporate video production companies are visual storytellers. With visuals and audio, we are conduits of your corporate culture and climate surrounding your brand. We are brand shapers and risk takers. We don’t think outside the box – we create like there is none for as much as our clients will allow.

For older companies with simple, straight-forward messages, we work with them every single step of the way to ensure that their brand is translated onscreen and will speak to their audiences. For start-up or younger companies, we focus on building relationships necessary to help and establish a strong, loyal audience through visual content. Depending on the type of clientele we deal with, we ensure that our creativity services their needs.

Corporate Video And The Importance of Pre-Production

Like any video project, pre-production is essential to creating and executing your desired content.

And anyone who’s worked on a video project knows that pre-production is just as (if not more important than production and post-production.

Corporate Video And The Importance of Pre-Production

Photo credit: Hyokano via Foter.com / CC BY-SA

One of the running film school jokes is that mistakes can be fixed in post. Nothing is farther from the truth. Why spend countless hours in a dark, cold editing suite trying desperately to fix a shot frame-by-frame that could have been an easy adjustment while on set? What about that production mishap that could have been fixed had you been more thorough with a pre-production checklist?

Whenever we take on a new client, some of the first things we ask are:

  • the type and quantity of project(s) (e.g. animation, multiple short spots, instructional videos etc.)
  • the length of the project(s)
  • the desired deadline for the project(s)

These all factor in how we determine our quotes/cost, what camera operators to use, which editors are best suited for the project, and how our production schedule will need to adjust.

Often, the pre-production phase is an ongoing one. Sometimes clients change their minds. Sometimes, they add or remove from their original request. We welcome all change.

We often meet with our clients to get a stronger sense of what they are looking for. With scripted content, we often provide multiple storyboards or rough first-draft scripts to go over with them to ensure we are all on the same page. For more free-form, non-scripted content (such as music videos, for example), storyboards become essential in mapping out the necessary visuals needed for a shoot.

For more free-form, non-scripted content (such as music videos, for example), storyboards become essential in mapping out the necessary visuals needed for a shoot. They not only give us an idea of what we’ll be shooting outside of b-roll; they help us shape a story that all videos do through series of shots. With the right audio and poignant lighting, you’re well on your way.

Here at Key West Video, we make it our duty to go over all production aspects before they touch cameras. For more information on the services we provide, visit our website today!

Why Colour Grading Is Vital To Corporate Video Production

Don’t be fooled – colour grading is of the utmost importance when it comes to creating stunning quality in corporate photography and video production.

Colour grading is literally just that – grading colour. Sometimes used interchangeably with the term, “colour correcting”, it is a tool often used to magnify, amplify and augment either still images or video content to brighten the visual. In a film, it’s meant to alter or enhance a motion picture or image either electronically, digitally, or photo-chemically.

Typically, grading is done by colour types: primary and secondary.

With primary colours, the colour density for red, blue and green colour channels are covered across the entire frame. With secondary colours, they are used to isolate a specific hue (or hues), the saturation, and the brightness of the image.

Why Colour Grading Is Vital To Corporate Video Production

Photo via http://bit.ly/2dV9xVD

When it comes to non-linear editing, often times video content can be colour graded within the software. Video editing software such as Adobe After Effects has built-in colouring adjustments that make it easy for any colourist (video editor) to colour grade. The levels and curves effects help to create a cinematic look and can either be adjusted to add or take away from a digital feel. Oftentimes, colour grading is used to create a more old-school, grainy film-like look to the tone and overall aesthetic of a film.

In corporate video, however, colour grading is used to really bring out high contrast in the video. What we often find is that indoor corporate offices exude a lot of secondary and tertiary colours and shadows. Apart from whites and blacks, there a lot of cool (or slate) greys, and tend to lack vibrant, primary colours. Colour grading is an amazing way to adjust video content, brighten up your subjects, and really give a project life.

Check out this cool tutorial on colour grading!

Here at Key West Video, we work directly with our clients to create the best, most stunning quality in corporate video production. For more information on the services we provide, visit our website today!

Why Corporate Photography Isn’t As Easy As It Looks

One general assumption is that corporate photography can be done by just anyone. Nothing is farther from the truth.

Corporate photography, like any other art form, takes careful precision, attention to detail, and technical skill. It is a science as much as it is an art form.

But for some reason, many assume that one becomes a photographer at the simple purchase of a DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) camera.

This is far from the case. Just because you have the tool, does not mean you have the craft.

Corporate photography requires a lot more than a “good eye”. We at Key West Video have worked with a vast amount of corporate photographer who knows the ins and outs of the latest camera technology. One thing we’ve come to realize is that not only it a never-ending learning process, but that different sets of corporate photography calls for different measures.

Headshots and Portraits

Why Corporate Photography Isn't As Easy As It Looks

For example, corporate (or non-corporate) headshots, group photos, and portraits call for a specific aesthetic. Typically,  corporate photographers should understand fluorescent lighting and how to manoeuvre employees in order to get the best, most effective corporate look. Headshots say a lot about an employee. Whether it’s for a prospective employee on the hunt for a new job or a long-time employee looking for an upgrade, your corporate headshots need to be a professional, but accurate, representation of you.

Event Photography

Why Corporate Photography Isn't As Easy As It Looks

Key West Video photographers are also highly skilled in event photography. Whether’s it’s a major convention or a private corporate event, we’ve had the honour of shooting stellar photography throughout the years. It’s important that your brand represents the corporate climate or culture of your company. We have a keen eye for flattering candids that accurately depict you.

Aerial Photography

Drone photography has become a recent phenomenon in the past few years. They offer a unique way of capturing the corporate climate of your company. They also grab wide-scale shots to give viewers a better look at what your company looks like. Whether it’s outdoor workers or the building’s architecture, drones are an excellent way to capture an all-encompassing bird’s eye view.

Product Photography

Lastly, we have product photography. Almost a stark contrast to aerial photography, product photography gets up close and personal with your product or service. We shoot (extreme) close-ups of your product or services, giving audiences an intimate, insider’s look at what you’re all about. Often used for educational or entertainment (or infotainment) purposes, this can be a great way to illustrate the ins and outs of your company and help shape a story around who you are.

At Key West Video, we understand the differences between the different types of corporate photography that is necessary to keep our clients happy. For more information on the services we provide, visit our website today!
