Key West Video: Why Our Clients Love Us

Key West Video: A Trusted Source for all Your Corporate Video Production Needs

Key West Video The Keywest Team On-Set

The Key West Video team has been producing videos which solve our client’s problems for over twenty-five years. From dramatic #training to event highlights, we have worked on any type or style of corporate video that you can imagine. The reason we have so many trusted clients, who keep coming back, is due to these factors;

Professional

Due to the lowered cost it takes to establish a production company these days, virtually anyone with a #DSLR and a website can set-up a business. However, a professional and experienced staff are not formulated overnight. It is exactly this professionalism, from arriving on-time, being overly-prepared, and able to tackle any circumstance, that sets Key West Video apart from the rest.

High Quality Equipment

When it comes to tools, it is important that you are working with a company that will provide you with the best equipment for your specific circumstances. #ProductionCraft states in their blog regarding the Top 5 Things to Look for When Hiring a Video Production Company, “If you are shopping video production rates find out what exactly is being included in your package so that that you can compare across the board”. Deciding on a company based upon the lowest rate isn’t the best solution. You need a partner that will provide you with fair rates for quality equipment. At Key West Video we don’t try to up-sell our clients, we simply provide them with a quote for what they need, and then tell them about other options if they wish to raise the production value of their video.

Experienced Staff

It is not only the equipment itself, but how you use it, that truly makes a difference. Nothing can compare to the value an experienced #videographer, #editor, or #producer, can bring to your project. Clients often like to throw things at us last minute, such as adding an additional scope to the project, or changing their needs. It is our knowledge of the industry, our experience on-set, as well as in the office, and dealing with similar situations, which allow us to think on our feet and always stay ahead of our clients needs.

Excellent Customer Service

Amazing #CustomerService is something that Key West Video prides itself on. One of the ways we do this is through being as flexible as possible for our clients. When a potential client calls us for a videographer for that day, we will do everything we can to book them in. When we have multiple clients who wish to book a shoot on the same day, we look to one of our trusted freelancers to help get the job done. And when a client has an extremely tight deadline and needs a quick editing turn around time, we work around the clock to get it done.

Keywest Video: Our Year in Review

2013 Through the Eyes of  the Keywest Video Team

January: At the start of 2013 Keywest kicked off the new year with the launch of a fresh design to our website. Although tweaks and adjustments have been made all throughout 2013, it was in this first month when the new style of the website took form and went live. We think it’s important to continually optimize our website and make sure we are always looking for ways to improve the site for ourselves, and of course our clients.

keywest video February: It was in February when we produced a video for one of Keywest’s friends Renaldo Gairy, highlighting his personal training company Way2Fit. Renaldo is a well known body builder, and uses his personal expertise in order to help others reach their physical goals. The final product was not only an excellent depiction of Renaldo’s personal training abilities and fitness knowledge, but also an indication of his personality and success rate with his clients.

March: We acquired a new Producer/Project Manager. Her name is Shivani if you don’t already know her, and she is wonderful. Shivani is talented in many ways, and has improved various aspects of Keywest’s business. From her exceptional organizational and management skills, to her flare for web design, and very handy technical knowledge, Shivani is a valuable asset to the team and we are all thrilled to have her.

keywest video
April: We continued to develop our relationship with NABS (The National Advertising Benevolent Society), which is a great organization that supports those in the marketing and communications industry who are facing a difficult time, due to illness, injury, unemployment or the like. NABS is a non-profit which approached Keywest several years ago, and since then we have donated multiple live action and animation videos in order to help spread the message about their cause. In April we created this testimonial video for them.

May: We utilized a remote controlled helicopter for the first time on one of our clients shoots where they wanted to get aerial footage of their building in downtown Toronto. We had been wanting to use a drone for some time, knowing its capacity for cost effective aerial shots, and the results were everything we ourselves and the client expected, and more! We continue to recommend this route to our clients who are interested in getting a different point of view that is sure to impress audiences and create a truly professional corporate video.

keywest video June: We are proud to say that Huawei Canada has chosen Keywest Video to produce several of their video projects over the past year and a half. In June of this year we were very happy to once again be working with the Huawei team, this time on the production of a promotional video commemorating the company’s fifth year on Canadian soil, which was to be shown at their event commemorating the occasion. Returning clients show us that our commitment to customer service and the quality of our productions is really paying off.

July: We added another amazing team member to our roster of talent. Hiram is a 2D and 3D motion graphics animator. He loves what he does & we love him for that. Hiram has increased the quality of animation work that Keywest produces, and is always ready with fresh and interesting new ideas to aid our clients’ videos. Hiram has been working on a number of different projects over the past few months and looks forward to what lays ahead in 2014.

keywest videoAugust: This was the month when Keywest completed several promotional videos for Century 21 Aberwin Realty. They wanted to showcase their agents, and emphasize that their team was “smarter, bolder, faster” then the rest. The Keywest team was delighted to work on the project, as the real estate market is one that we have wanted to tap into for some time. Since this project, we have produced videos for a Remax brokerage, and have had several meetings with other agents and brokerages across the GTA and beyond.

September: In September we produced our first weekly video blog. Since then we have been creating video blogs on a wide array of topics, and plan on continuing this throughout 2014. We have found video blogs a great way to reach out to those with similar interests who want to learn a bit more about the corporate video production industry, are interested in getting a video for their own company, or simply find the content interesting. We are happy to share our knowledge at Keywest, and we hope that these video blogs have been a useful asset for our viewers.

keywest videoOctober: Although weekly video blogs were something that we just started producing the previous month, holiday videos were a Keywest Video classic. In previous years though, December was the month where we really ramped up our game and created a cute/silly video to share with our clients, vendors and friends. But due to our recent commitment to make videos for our own use on a regular basis, we had decided that each and every holiday should have its own special Keywest holiday video. This gem was the result.

November: November started out like any other month, but half way through it seemed as though every client we were speaking with wanted to film on the last week of the month. We ended up having two shoots booked almost every day on that last week of November. There was a lot of extra planning and organization involved to ensure that everything went smoothly and without a hitch. In the end no equipment was lost, all of the footage looked great, and our clients were truly satisfied that we were able to work around their schedules. We proved a lot to ourselves this month.

keywest videoDecember: This was a busy month for us. There were quite a few shoots, lots of editing, both live action and animation, and of course the holiday’s create a busy atmosphere with holiday parties and endless amounts of fruit cake. But in between it all we managed to produce another holiday video, to add a little extra cheer to the month. While many in our office groaned about the prospect of lip synching, doing the can-can and blowing fake snow into the camera, I think it was all worth it. If you haven’t already seen it please take a look!

Happy New Year from everyone here at Keywest Video!

Corporate Video Production: The Stages

Corporate video production is a specialized profession, and here at Keywest, it is our only focus.

We know that you need the control, expertise, and knowledge to create and promote outstanding videos; that is why we strive to solve your biggest challenges with amazing video. There are four main stages associated with corporate video production: pre-production, production, post-production, and deliveries.

Stage 1: Pre-production

Firstly, when embarking on a corporate video production, you need to figure out what exactly it is that you need. It’s critical to assess your needs, plan a timeline, identify your audience, and define the scope of your project. Once your needs have been determined, it is time to embark on the creative process. This is the part where concepts are refined and the entire production is planned – everything from location consultations to casting talent and script writing/editing takes place during this stage of your corporate video production. Keywest’s experienced producers can assist with brainstorming ideas and methods that will make your video stand out against its competitors.

Stage 1: Pre-Production Stage 1: Pre-Production

Before going ahead with your corporate video production, it is crucial to understand how video can help your business. Keywest will work together with you and your team to assess the purpose, target, and effect of your video. By refining all of these details in the pre-production stage, we are able to guarantee a focused finished product that not only exceeds your expectations, but also saves you money.

When it comes to corporate video production, it is crucial to ensure that your video is informative, but also entertaining and captivating to your audience. Many viewers associate terms such as “dull” and “boring: with corporate video production, but it’s important that your project is unique and interesting to the viewer. Luckily, Keywest has a roster of creative professionals who understand the corporate video format. If your annual video needs something more, or if you just need to capture your audience’s attention, let us present an idea that just might transform the way you think about corporate video.

Stage 2: Production

Now that all the planning has taken place, it’s time to get this show on the road. The production stage is all about performance and this is where all of your ideas come to life. During the production stage, it is important to be extremely prepared, well informed, and equipped for shooting. At Keywest, it is our job to make sure that everything runs smoothly, especially during this stage as any mishaps could end up costing unnecessary time and money.

Stage 2: Production Stage 2: Production

It is important to be alert during the production stage, as there is a great deal at stake during this phase of corporate video production. Locations have been confirmed, talent has been prepped, and the crew is booked. Since there are so many people involved in a single production, it is important that all of the groundwork was laid during the pre-production stages so as to ensure the project goes off without a hitch.  It is important to have a knowledgeable producer on hand as they are the ones you will need to go to in the event of any unforeseen issues. Keywest’s organized and dedicated producers will ensure that the production stage is executed properly and according to schedule.

Stage 3: Post-Production

The post-production stage is literally “where all the magic happens”. This is the stage where everything finally comes together. For live action corporate video production, the editor will sift through the captured footage to create the final video, adding elements such as voice overs, music, titles, colour-correction, audio cleaning, etc. In other cases, motion graphics artists or animators will create the final product during this stage, combining production and post-production, as there is no live action involved.

Stage 3: Post-Production Stage 3: Post-Production

It is during this post-production stage that Keywest’s clients are able to see the final product come together and provide the editors with their input. Our online file sharing

website helps avoid lengthy approval processes. Once we have cut together something for you to look at, we send you a link to your video, and you simply click, watch, send to others for comments or approval, and then send us your feedback. We then continue this process until you are fully satisfied with the finished product.

Stage 4: Deliveries

The final stage in your corporate video production journey is the delivery stage. Here at Keywest, we are able to accommodate various kinds of deliveries… and best of all, we even backup your entire project on our servers. Some popular formats include:

  • MP4

  • Blu-Ray

  • YouTube

  • Vimeo

  • Embedded Link

  • DVD

  • Quick Time

  • WMV

  • Flash Video

  • Mini-DV

  • Betacam

Stage 4: Deliveries Stage 4: Deliveries

As you can see, there’s more to corporate video production than what meets the eye. It is important to have a professionally produced video for your business, as its quality is a reflection of your company. Keywest is here to help and our professional producers will make your job easy.

Corporate Video Production Company Checklist

Corporate Video Production Company: What you need to know.

Whether you are part of a sales and marketing team or own your own business, at Keywest we understand that our clients are always looking for a corporate video production company that can provide the best service for the most competitive price. That is why we are continually focused on improving our business and being able to satisfy our clients above and beyond their expectations. Here is a list of some of the things you should know before you contact a corporate video production company to partner with:

Customer Service

It is important to find a corporate video production company that prides itself on providing excellent customer service. Customer service is one of our top priorities when dealing with our clients. When our clients come to us, it doesn’t matter if they’re looking for video production, a photographer, or graphic design… we will find a way to give them exactly what they need. Keywest is able to do this not only because of our amazing team, but also with the help of relationships we have built over the years with a great deal of industry professionals and talent.

Reliability

A team is built on trust. When you come to Keywest for your video production needs, we want you to feel like a part of our team and trust in our abilities. We do this by making sure that you are taken care of every step of the way by constantly updating you on the production process and following up after delivery to ensure satisfaction. As producers, we are problem solvers: in the event of a technical mishap, issues with talent, client disputes, and the array of other issues that we face on a daily basis, we always stay calm and ensure that our clients’ needs are met.

Flexibility

When choosing a corporate video production company, it is key to find producers that are not only understanding but flexible to your needs. We understand that when dealing with larger companies, there are many different individuals involved in the approval process. Here at Keywest, we are all too familiar with this and do everything in our power to mitigate confusion or unnecessary holdups. For example, our online review process allows for our contact to be able to send out an easily viewable link of the video edit to all parties involved. Once feedback has been accumulated, we gather the notes/revisions and incorporate them into the next edit.

Reputation/Experience

When looking for a corporate video production company, it is important to look into the company’s reputation and experience with other clients. Although film students and up and coming companies may have enticing prices, they don’t possess the same level of experience and know-how that comes from years of being on set and producing videos. When tricky situations arise, it is more comforting to know that your production team has dealt with such issues before and is capable of figuring out the correct solution for you.

Keywest is an established corporate video production that has our clients’ best interests at heart. Contact us today to discuss your production needs.

Personal Training: Way2Fit

Personal Training Promotional Video: Way2Fit

Challenge:

Keywest Video was contacted by personal trainer Renaldo Gairy to create a promotional video for himself as well as his website www.way2fit.com. The goal of the video was to provide Renaldo with a dynamic and interesting video that showcases his talents at personal training, thus promoting his company Way2Fit in the process.

Solution:

The final product was not only an excellent depiction of Renaldo’s personal training abilities and fitness knowledge, but also an indication of his personality and success rate with his clients.

The video begins with a combination of dynamic music and close-ups of Renaldo’s clients training using a variety of equipment in the gym. Not wanting to lose the viewer’s interest, we made sure to include varied shots and angles of clients, equipment, and Renaldo.

Renaldo then goes on to speak about his abilities and strengths as a personal trainer, outlining his skills to train for weight gain, weight loss, increasing cardio, and his specialty – bodybuilding. We intercut this information with footage of his clients training in order to keep the video interesting and not merely “a bunch of talking heads”.

Throughout the video, the viewer sees a great deal of b-roll as Renaldo trains his clients in addition to 3 key testimonials from 3 of Renaldo’s clients. These testimonials not only help to verify Renaldo’s abilities as a personal trainer, but they also showcase the various training types that he is capable of as each personal is striving for different results. Jeffry is transforming his body in order to achieve a more body-building like physique, Bianca is trying to gain more definition and muscle, and Andrew is looking for a more challenging workout than ever before.

The testimonials coupled with the dynamic b-roll and interview with Renaldo made for a unique and interesting video. By incorporating different elements and constantly shifting the viewer’s attention, we were able to create a captivating video that not only promoted Renaldo and his company, but is also enjoyable to watch.

Woman quits her job via YouTube video

Woman quits her job through an interpretive dance to a Kanye West song

And when you thought you’ve seen it all…. A 25-year-old writer Marina Shifrin, announced her resignation last Saturday by posting a video of her having a solo dance party on YouTube set to Kanye West’s song “Gone”.

Apparently there is no need for two weeks’ notice anymore; this is how you quit your job in the 21st century.

Almost immediately the video went viral, with now 8.7 million views. The video also got the attention of major news outlets around the world.

In the video, which was filmed at 4:30 am, she dances around in the office, while on screen captions explain her reasoning behind the video and her resignation.

She claimed that the Taiwanese animation company Next Media Animation is “awesome,” and that her “boss only cares about quantity and how many views each video gets… I believe it’s more important to focus on the quality of the content.”

She says she made this video “to focus on the content instead of worrying about views.” Quite ironic how this video went viral with over 8.7 million views. Her boss should be proud.

Today, in response to Shifrin’s video, the company posted their own video in the same format, wishing Marina well and to let everyone know that “they’re hiring” .

The response video used the same locations and format as the original video, as well as showed off some of their awesome facilities they offer, like a roof top pool, to entice potential job candidates.

Her boss also had some words for her saying he wished “Marina would have applied more creativity to her daily work as she did in this video”.

This video has already inspired a parody, featuring a dancing stay-at-home mom dancing that she quits.

Professional Videographer vs Man with a Camera

Why Hire a Professional Videographer?

These days it might seem pointless to hire a professional videographer. Video cameras are readily available, and further more, people know how to use them. So why pay a professional videographer hundreds of dollars for something you think you can do yourself?  Is it really worth the investment? How about hiring a recent film grad? In this post, we will tell you what sets apart professional videographers vs someone with a camera, and why a professional videographer will be worth it.

Professional Videographers are more than a guy with a camera. They are trained and experienced in their field.

Firstly lets explain what makes a professional videographer different than someone with a camera.

Professional Videographers come with the latest professional equipment, and know how to use them. They will come to the shoot prepared, and have all the necessary equipment needed for the shoot to run as smooth as possible.  Shooting a video is more than just having a video camera. Do you have proper mics? Proper lighting equipment? A slider? Tripod? Monopod? Teleprompter? If not, the video will end up looking simplistic and amateurish.

Professional Videographers are problem solvers. They know the ins and outs of shooting a great video. If there is an audio or lighting problem, they will know exactly how to solve that problem –and fast, not to miss a moment of that shoot. Could you say that about yourself?

Professional Videographers are trained to have a keen eye. They know the best lighting for different shots and knows the best and most creative angles. If you decide to shoot the video yourself, the video could end up looking boring, dull and lacking creative direction. You’re trying to promote your business; is all your hard work worth it for a shaky, badly lit video?

Another option can be hiring a recent film grad – for a lower price. But there’s always a reason the rate’s are lower; the lower quality it entails. Both the recent film grad and professional videographer have training; but what makes a professional videographer the proper choice, is the years of experience he has in the field.

If you want a great video, hiring a professional videographer is definitely worth the investment.

Here at Keywest, we have a well-seasoned professional videographer who knows the ins and outs of everything that has to do with videography.

The starting rate for our Professional Videographer is $499 for a half day. That includes a lighting package, lav mics and camera mics, tripod and your choice of camera.

Visit our website for more information on a Keywest Professional Videographer.

Corporate Video Trends for 2013

Corporate Video Trends for 2013

Corporate Video has transformed over the past few years. With newer technology available today and the growing trends taking effect at a rapid rate, it’s important to keep up to date so your corporate video doesn’t look out of date.

Here are the top 5 recent Corporate Video Trends for 2013:

  1. Corporate videos are becoming shorter. A few years ago, the ideal length was 3 minutes, and now the standard has changed to anywhere between 60 and 120 seconds, and that number is continuing to shrink. Why? Because the attention spans of people are shrinking. There is so much happening on the web right now that people are moving onto the next video at a faster rate.  Now, prior to watching videos, people are beginning to check out the length of the video itself. If there is another video available with an even shorter time, people will choose to watch that video instead. Mobile video viewing is also growing at a substantial rate. People on the go don’t necessarily have as much time to watch a longer video as they do while sitting at a computer.

  2. Corporate videos are becoming more social. Corporate videos have teamed up with many different online social platforms (i.e. YouTube).  Corporate videos are now known as second – only to word of mouth – in its power to influence consumers on their purchasing decisions. This growing trend is an important component of marketing corporate videos, and should not be overlooked by businesses.

  3. The use of animation in corporate videos are becoming more popular. Animation is not what it used to be.  It is now used to spruce up corporate videos while bringing a high quality look and feel to them. For more information, visit our blog on animation.

  4. The style of corporate video. The recent trends for style in corporate videos are slowly changing. This includes using larger sensor cameras to attain the shallow depth of field look, adding more movement, as well as masking office settings through green screens or backdrops. With this changing trend, the divide between amateur and professional corporate video has grown substantially.

  5. The focus on having a good storyboard. It use to be all about having a solid script, but now storyboards are becoming a huge part of the pre-production stage. Check out our previous post about the importance of storyboards, and why they are essential when it comes to corporate videos.

Here at Keywest, we keep up-to-date with all the current corporate video trends. We know the importance of each growing trend, and strive to utilize all of them when producing our corporate videos.

Kickstarter coming to Canada!

Kickstarter will be available for Canadians starting September 9th!

The Rolling Stone calls it “Funds for the Future” and CNN is calling it “Paradigm-shifting”. What exactly is Kickstarter? Kickstarter is an online platform that helps to raise funds publicly for creative projects that need financial backing.  They raise funds for projects ranging from films, games, and music to art, design, and technology.

Since 2009, over $769 million dollars have been pledged to fund more than 47, 000 independent projects. Kickstarter’s mission is to help bring creative projects to life.

Starting September 9th 2013, Kickstarter will finally be available to Canadians.

Kickstarter is an innovative platform, which creators could receive 100 percent of the donations pledged.

How does Kickstarter work?

Creators sign up and set a funding goal and a deadline. It works as an all or nothing: creators either reach their goal and receive all the funding pledged or don’t reach their goal and receive nothing.

This is a great platform for anyone who has an innovative project and needs further funding. But how are projects able to stand out from the thousands of other projects on Kickstarter? How do they effectively get enough pledges to reach the funding goal by the deadline?

It’s all in the creator’s video. People who view product videos are 85 % more likely to buy that product than if there is no product video at all.

Online videos are increasingly being watched more often, as much as, or even more often than watching television.  In our society today, people are infatuated with watching videos for everything. When showcasing a new product, a well done product video will surely capture the attention of consumers.  How often are people really watching online videos? And does that have an effect on businesses that don’t have a product video? Keywest went out to find the answers to these questions and more.  Check out the video below to find out more.

The most funded Kickerstarter projects all have one thing in common; they all have great videos showcasing their innovative products and services.

High quality commercials and video ads (worth thousands of dollars) have already been seen by the general public. What does this mean? After watching a poorly produced video, the conclusion is simple; Kickstarter backers will come to assume that the product is a direct reflection of the video.

Here at Keywest Video, we are professionals when it comes to producing high quality product videos. We have been producing corporate videos for over 20 years. We can help any business big or small produce a product video that will get the product noticed, and if for kickstarter, can help it achieve the funding goal it needs by the deadline.

Teleprompter for Corporate Videos

Teleprompter for Corporate Videos

Is using a Teleprompter necessary when shooting a Corporate Video?

Maybe you are hesitant in using a teleprompter because you want your corporate video to seem unscripted and natural…and think using a teleprompter will make it look like your presenter is reading directly from the screen.

It will be an added expense on your budget, but let’s find out if using one will be beneficial for your corporate video.

Time Efficient

It saves time for everyone. Let’s say your presenter is a senior executive, and he will be delivering a long presentation. Senior executives are usually on a tight deadline, and just don’t have hours of time away from the office to be spent in a shoot. Using a teleprompter  would save hours of his time. Even if you hired a professional actor, and they memorized their script beforehand -that doesn’t guarantee you a fluid read like a teleprompter would.

Professionalism

We are all human, and with that comes a natural stumble when we talk (ughs/umm’s). Reading from a teleprompter just brings a fluid read. You’re already investing thousands of dollars in this corporate video, so it wouldn’t make sense not using a teleprompter and having your presenter look unprofessional and unknowledgeable.  Using a teleprompter will make your talent look and sound more professional.

Sounding Natural

If you think that using a teleprompter will make your presenter look like he is directly reading from the prompter -think again! Its all in your script. If you want a more natural speech, make sure its written out like that for your presenter. To avoid the “directly reading from the teleprompter look” make sure that your presenter goes through the script and practices his lines before the shoot. Even though there is a teleprompter there the presenter should always know the material.

The only CON with using a teleprompter is the added expense of it on your budget. Although when you use a teleprompter, in the end you will save money on the production cost because you wont need as many shooting days.

For corporate video, not using a teleprompter just makes the overall look unprofessionally done and sloppy.

The difference between sounding and looking natural or looking like a deer caught in headlights is completely in your control.

Here at Keywest, you can use our teleprompter services for your corporate video for the low price of $250.

Voiceover for Corporate Video

Voiceover for your Corporate Video:

We have all seen that expertly produced video, perfectly executed down to the very last detail… But something was missing. There was no voiceover, making this high quality video seem kind of dull. But why is voiceover so important when it comes to corporate videos?

Here are 5 reasons why all corporate videos should include a V/O.

  1. To help carry out your message: Adding voiceover in your corporate video sets the mood for your video, and adds a certain style your video might have been lacking (like an upbeat, smooth, or warm style).  It can work really well if the voiceover actor not only has the vocal skills to carry it through, but also has the right type of voice for the piece. Voiceovers create the effect of a good story telling, which instantly connects the audience with the video.

  2. Voiceover can also fill in the gaps in your video: If an interviewee wasn’t overly articulate or failed to use a noun that would have made the subject more comprehensible– there is a simple solution: Grab a half sound bite to put a face on the screen and give the piece credibility, and then explain the rest of the point in a narrative track. Using voiceover can really help to fill in the gaps in your video, and it allows you to hide the awkward moments that an edit can’t fix.

  3. Better understanding for your audience: Voiceovers can be a great tool to use to provide your audience with a better understanding of what’s happening in your video. If your video isn’t so straightforward, your audience could get easily confused and thus lose interest fast.

  4. Not interesting script: Sometimes with corporate video, the subject might not be that earthshaking, so your script might seem a little dull. Using a voiceover would definitely help with that because  the sound and tone of the voice is greater than the actual content of the words used – 38% sound compared to 7% words. The audience’s attention would be more engaged with a good voiceover than just having to listen to the actual words.

  5. Quality: Adding more elements to your corporate video will immediately up the quality of your production, and voiceover is a simple enough production technique that should not be over looked.

Now that you have read through all the reasons why using a voiceover for your corporate video is beneficial, here is another tip: when using voiceover, leave it to the professionals. You think, “Why pay all that money for a professional actor when you can get any person that can speak decently read over a script?” While most of us can speak pretty well, doing a VO (voiceover) is a very specific skill, best left to the professionals. (A microphone can be as scary as a camera).

Here at Keywest, we know that a voiceover can be an essential part in your corporate video, and will make the whole production process – including the voiceover process – as easy and efficient for you as possible. We will send you samples of voiceover actors, help you choose which one will bring the right style and set the right mood for your video, and then help piece your video together to produce a video that gets your message heard.

Camp Gyno Video- A Breakthrough

Camp Gyno Video –A Breakthrough in Tampon Advertising

Tampon Commercial goes Viral

Its like Santa for your vagina…” and with those words and more, the video ad The Camp Gyno became one of the most popular tampon ads in history, with over 5 million YouTube views in just over a week. Why? Check out the video below.

This Tampon video is a first of its kind: its real, inventive and downright funny.

It differs from the conventional tampon commercials that usually feature a model type looking girl twirling around in a white dress on a beach.

This video is not like any tampon commercial out there. Period. In a comedic way, it tells a coming of age story to young girls. Which most girls can actually relate too.

Its been called the “funniest period commercial ever” by ABC News.

Tampon Ad Industry is forever changed

The Camp Gyno video has definitely changed the tampon ad industry as we know it.

This video brings to light that yes, girls do get their period, and that they shouldn’t be embarrassed by it. It shows tweens suffering with the excruciating monthly cramps –which has never been showed before in a tampon commercial.

And it’s about time to finally see a commercial that does not censor that.

And Because of this 1.47 mins video, it has put the unheard of company Hello Flo on the radar.

If you are a small business or large corporation looking to create a one of a kind video to market your business, look no further. Here at Keywest, we have been producing videos for over 20 years.

So, after watching this video, would you order a starter kit from www.helloflo.com for yourself, or someone you know? Or would you just rather make that drive down the street to your local store?

KEY Points on 3 Point Lighting

You’ve bought the expensive video camera; you have your interview subject, now what comes next? The location appears to have good lighting, so does that mean you don’t need any extra lighting?

Lighting brings productions to a more professional looking level, so it’s definitely necessary if you are shooting an interview. Without using artificial lighting, your interview could look very poorly done (even though it was shot on an expensive video camera). So why waste hours of shooting time when you can hardly make out the outline of your subject’s face?

When it comes to lighting, Three Point Lighting is one of the basics. It’s the easiest to set up, and doesn’t take that much time and sweat.

As you might have guessed, there are three lights being used. Now the lights can be the same wattage and bulb size, what actually makes them differ is the position you place them in during the interview. Don’t try turning all three lights on at the same moment. You should turn them on one by one, starting with the Key Light.

  • The Key light is the dominant light source, as it illuminates the subject. It should be placed at about a 45-degree angle above and to either the right or left of the subject’s face. You will soon notice that shadows appear on your subject’s nose and neck giving them a three-dimensional look. Don’t worry this is actually a good thing, this means you have set up the Key light properly. Now it’s the job of the second light to fix that problem.

  • The Fill Lights’ job is to fill in the shadows created by the Key Light. The Fill Light is placed on the opposite side of the Key Light. The Fill Light should be on a similar level to the subject/camera. You may have to play a little with the fill light as in where it should be positioned exactly, as it is the direct reaction to the key light. The fill light should be about two or three stops dimmer than the key. You can achieve this by either moving back the light or by using a diffuser.

  • Last but definitely not least is the Backlight. And as its name suggests, it is positioned in the background –aimed towards the back of the subject (head and shoulders). It’s the final light that completes the whole set up. Its main job is to separate the subject from the background. It produces a sense of distance between the subject and the background, giving it a sort of third dimensional look on screen. And if you have a nice background to work with, you can also aim the back light at that. The back light should be at least as bright as the Key Light and in some situations often brighter.

When all three lights are properly put together, you will have a very natural three dimensional looking shot. And if used properly you could look like you have shot like a pro (even if you aren’t one yet).

Here at Keywest we are professionals when it comes to Lighting.

The Rise in Video and What it Can Mean for Your Business.

It’s a digital world out there, and it’s on the rise. There are already more than a billion people on Facebook, surfing the net and on smart phones. And according to eMarter.com nearly 200 million people by 2015 will be viewing a video online. This growing use of digital technology can mean anyone can potentially reach out to a massive market with very little effort. It’s literally changed the way we communicate and do business. Some say a picture is worth more than a 1000 words, now imagine a video. According to one doctor less than a minute of video equals 1.8 MILLION words.

People are more engaged now with both audio and visual communication compared to the previous visual advertisements.  So for advertising and marketing why wouldn’t you go digital to enhance your business? Research has even proven that an online video is 50 times more likely to show up on Google compared to a text web page.

Video hasn’t completely replaced radio or the written word, but it’s definitely an increasingly popular form of communication and is not just limited to the T.V or the net anymore. It’s travelled as far out to mobile devices—even Instagram has video now.

This makes corporate video one of the hottest advertising tools on the market today. Videos simply allow you to illustrate your stuff, in a social interactive way.  Research reveals that people spend on average 48 seconds on a specific website. Now if that website features a video, that time soars to 5 minutes and 50 seconds.

80% That’s the percent of internet users according to Online Publishers Association who recall watching a video ad on a website in the past 30 days. 46% of users took some action after watching the video.

What does that mean? Corporate videos just make sense for promoting businesses.

If you’re not using video marketing in this day and age, you’re missing out on a huge market opportunity.

Here at Keywest, we are experts in corporate video production. For more than 20 years, we have worked with companies and organizations both big and small focusing on promoting your company’s success.
